Summary
How do we get the right diagnostic data to improve the quality of Apple products and software? This is the most important question that the Stability Engineering OS Team strives to answer each day. We are looking for an exceptional senior engineer to architect and build our OS diagnostic collection services.
You will own critical components of our diagnostic infrastructure and work with engineers across Apple to develop and enhance operating system code that supports our mission. We write code for all Apple platforms (iOS, tvOS, watchOS, visionOS, and macOS). Your code will ship on millions of devices used worldwide, directly impacting the quality and reliability of Apple products.
Description
As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of critical diagnostic infrastructure components and drive technical decisions that shape our data collection strategy. You'll architect solutions that perform efficiently within the constraints of all Apple platforms, with privacy and user trust always at the forefront.
You will mentor other engineers, lead technical design reviews, and collaborate closely with teams across Apple to ensure our diagnostic systems provide the insights needed to continuously improve product quality. Your work will directly influence how Apple identifies, diagnoses, and resolves issues affecting millions of users worldwide.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
7+ years of experience writing sophisticated, performant code in C, Objective-C, or Swift with proven ability to test, debug, and productize at scale.
Strong object-oriented and systems software design skills with experience architecting large-scale systems or services.
Deep expertise in systems programming with meaningful development experience on iOS, macOS, or POSIX-compliant systems.
Proven software engineering skills including version control, code review, unit testing, and CI/CD practices.
Excellent debugging skills with hands-on experience using debugging and tracing tools (LLDB, DTrace, Instruments, etc.).
Understanding of privacy-preserving data collection techniques and security best practices.
Experience with performance optimization under constrained environments (memory, CPU, battery, network).
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills working with QA, Product, Security, and other engineering teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with embedded systems or resource-constrained environments
Mobile platform development (iOS, watchOS, or similar)
Low-level OS development (kernel, daemons, system services)
Experience with telemetry, analytics, or observability systems
Crash analysis and symbolication experience
Contributions to open-source projects
Familiarity with differential privacy or other privacy-enhancing technologies
