Apple’s internal Testing Tools & Services organization is seeking a high-energy and diligent developer who will have a profound impact on the quality of Apple's operating systems. This team builds and maintains the core infrastructure, frameworks, and automation harnesses that enable large-scale testing of Apple software on all the supported hardware platforms.
Description
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and scalability of the restore harness used company wide to install and validate OS components across devices during testing. You will lead key technology initiatives to enhance functionality, scalability and reliability of the restore tools, demonstrating your ability to quickly master automation systems and new OS-level features to deliver robust solutions. The nature of the position requires you to possess excellent analytical and debugging skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a drive to make a difference.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and improve tools, frameworks, and services that automate device OS restore and setup for testing.
Ensure high reliability, performance, and scalability of the restore infrastructure used across multiple engineering orgs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, QA, and lab operations) to support new device bring-up, OS releases, and test workflows.
Investigate, triage, and resolve issues in the restore workflows to minimize impact on testing productivity.
mplement monitoring, metrics, and automation to proactively detect and resolve failures.
Drive continuous improvements in restore workflows, code quality, and developer experience.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of industry experience
BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
Proven hands-on programming skills in Python.
Experience with object-oriented design and building maintainable, large-scale projects.
Hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Grafana, or similar)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Good understanding of system software concepts (OS installation, device provisioning, restore processes).
Experience working with hardware-software integration testing or embedded systems.
Prior exposure to large-scale CI/CD environments.
Problem-solving mindset with ability to debug complex, cross-layer issues.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
