Apple Care Engineering (ACE) is the technical group within Apple Care that develops and validates the physical aspects of hardware repair.
The Apple Care Engineering Packaging team is responsible for developing, validating, documenting and releasing service packaging for whole units and service modules. This is inclusive of single packs for hero products and service modules, and their single shippers, recovery kits, AC defined multipacks, dynamic label specs with locations, Pack-out instructions and pallet specs. We support packaging for all products in all channels and every part needs packaging and a spec.
We are looking for a highly motivated Packaging Engineer with background in packaging design, development and testing, and with exceptional program management skills.
Description
The candidate will be responsible for leading packaging development projects from concept to launch. There are an enormous amount of projects and parts being developed simultaneously, so the role requires the candidate to sort through the maelstrom, organize tasks, assign them and drive them to completion. The candidate will communicate with key stake holders, internal customers and suppliers on the status and set expectations.
The candidate will also be involved in company wide sustainability initiatives, helping meet internal goals and external regulatory requirements that ensure Apple is leading the way in our effort to minimize our environmental impact.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
5–10 years of relevant experience in packaging design, development, testing and manufacturing, preferably in consumer goods, electronics or medical devices.
Strong knowledge and working experience with common packaging materials (paperboard, corrugate, plastics, foams, films, etc.).
Experience designing, validating and testing packaging that meets ESD protective requirements for highly sensitive electronics components.
Exposure working to meet sustainability initiatives, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) regulations.
Experience with packaging validation and supply chain integration.
Experience with international sourcing or vendor management.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, ArtiosCAD) and packaging simulation tools.
Understanding of DFM/DFA, drop/impact testing, ISTA/ASTM standards, and compliance with regulatory and environmental standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
Able to lead packaging development projects from concept to launch.
Comfortable working with cross-functional teams: industrial design, product design, marketing, operations, quality, and vendors.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Capable of mentoring junior engineers or managing vendors and contractors.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset.
Demonstrated ability to drive cost savings, improve packaging performance, or meet sustainability goals.
Experience in automation and packaging line design.
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and documentation tools (e.g., PLM).
Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements (including documentation) for controlled materials batteries, solvents, VOC's (a plus)
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $165,500 and $248,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
