The Global Strategy, Operations & Performance (GSOP) team serves as a Center of Excellence within Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) business unit, focusing on enterprise-level strategy, performance management, and operational delivery. We're a fast-moving, high-impact team tackling the company’s most important priorities.
The Risk & Remediation program management office (PMO) is specifically focused on driving GMNS process excellence, Legal Entity Governance, 1LOD Compliance, Data Governance and managing large risk-related initiatives for GMNS.
The GMNS PMO team’s objective is to drive the successful delivery of Project Guardian—a key initiative to enhance the Operational Risk and Control Management strategy within GMNS through strong program management and deep enterprise partnerships.
The successful candidate will support a high-priority, enterprise-wide program, providing global program management across key workstreams and deliverables to advance GMNS toward a more robust risk management model. This role offers exposure to multiple teams across GMNS l and the broader American Express organization.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The role requires strategic coordination across GMNS workstreams and business unit leaders, along with close collaboration with partners in the second line, third line, and supporting functions to uphold the highest standards of control and compliance.
We are seeking a results-driven professional with a strong track record in delivering complex transformation initiatives—someone who thrives in a dynamic, high-impact environment and demonstrates exceptional leadership presence and executive engagement skills. This role offers significant visibility and partnership opportunities with senior leaders across GMNS.
Additional responsibilities include:
Lead and oversee the end-to-end GMNS cross-functional workplan, ensuring timely delivery and effective oversight of all key program deliverables
Partner closely with CLM Leadership, Control Management, Legal Entity Governance, Network & Acquiring Solutions, and Second Line of Defense (2LOD) teams to drive alignment and execution
Serve as the program management function, acting as a key liaison between GMNS sponsors and workstream leads to ensure cohesive delivery of the Guardian program objectives
Provide clear, consistent communication to senior management, including progress updates, milestone tracking, and escalation of critical issues and decision points as needed
Champion change management initiatives by supporting communication strategies and engagement approaches across stakeholders
Foster organizational alignment by identifying interdependencies and developing strong linkages across teams within and outside of GMNS
Support Guardian PMO governance forums for GMNS, represent the function in enterprise-level committees (e.g., Operational Risk Management Committee), and share insights through relevant communities of practice
Establish and maintain robust protocols for documentation, ensuring all key artifacts—such as approvals and evidence of task completion—are properly captured in accordance with Enterprise PMO standards
Minimum Qualifications
Highly motivated, proactive self-starter with a proven ability to provide strategic thought leadership and effectively lead complex, cross-functional workstreams
Demonstrated success operating in fast-paced, dynamic, and highly matrixed environments, with the agility to manage shifting priorities, multiple demands, and ambiguity while maintaining focus on outcomes
Exceptional program and project management skills, with strong organizational discipline and the ability to drive execution through influence and collaboration
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a track record of engaging and partnering effectively with senior leaders and cross-enterprise stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts and influence decision-making across diverse audiences
Demonstrated resilience and a positive, solutions-oriented mindset; able to navigate challenges with professionalism and composure
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project or program management, preferably in a large, global, and matrixed organization
Flexibility to collaborate across multiple time zones, given the global scope of the role
Based in New York City with a hybrid work arrangement
Bachelor's degree required and master's degree preferred.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
