How will you make an impact in this role?
The Capital Planning team is part of the Global Treasury organization and supports capital management activities across the firm. The team plays an in integral role in maintaining and updating the capital management framework, analyzing and advising on capital distribution strategies, including share repurchases and dividends, enterprise stress testing, capital adequacy monitoring and reporting, capital ratio analysis, regulatory capital, balance sheet forecasting, and the formation and execution of the annual capital plan.
The Director – Capital Planning will partner closely with Corporate Planning, Risk Finance, Controllership, Treasury, Tax, and other teams on capital and balance sheet related topics. The role will be heavily involved in monitoring regulatory capital ratios, assessing capital adequacy, capital distribution decisions, monthly forecasting, and company-wide stress testing exercises and ad-hoc analysis and projects. Additionally, the Director will gain exposure to balance sheet and capital distribution strategies, interact with senior management, and lead a team of two high performing managers.
Responsibilities Include:
Maintain and update capital model inclusive of capital distribution decisions related to share repurchases, dividends, etc.
Perform regular forecasting of AXP balance sheet, risk weighted assets, capital position, and regulatory capital ratios
Oversee capital adequacy assessment and regulatory capital ratio monitoring; communicate results to senior leadership
Conduct stress testing of capital resources as part of the enterprise-wide Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) exercise, file regulatory reports
Lead the capital components of the Internal Capital Adequacy and Assessment Process (ICAAP), update the framework regularly and continuously improve processes
Support subsidiary capital analytics and the governance of subsidiary capital transactions including capital infusions and dividends
Support the Capital Management Committee (CMC). Coordinate CMC agenda topics, conduct meetings, and prepare material to be presented at the CMC, Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) and Board of Directors meetings
Oversee documentation related to capital activities including: the Capital Management Policy, Capital Transaction Forms, Capital Management Committee Charter, Process Risk Self-Assessment, and Standard Operating Procedures
Provide consultative support to M&A deals, new product offerings, subsidiary stress testing, ad-hoc projects, and process improvement activities
Stay abreast of the evolving regulatory landscape, perform scenario analysis as needed, and support regulatory advocacy efforts
Minimum Qualifications:
6 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Finance or related
Keen focus on operational excellence and attention to detail
Solid understanding of balance sheet fundamentals and strategies
Proactive in identifying trends and sharing new ideas
Extensive experience with stakeholder engagement
Strong communication and presentation skills
High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
Knowledge of Treasury subject matter domain and AXP financials
Strong people leadership skills with experience managing a team
Ability to synthesize complex data into coherent presentations for cross functional senior leaders
Ability to drive and leverage relationships across the organization
Strong sense of intellectual curiosity that will drive new and innovative ways of thinking about the company’s performance
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Basel capital rules helpful
Master's Degree
Proficient in TM1

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
