Description
APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Lead the end-to-end design and engineering integration of a next generation iPhone enclosure accounting for critical features such as manufacturability, material utilization, reliability, water-sealing, and antenna performance. Work closely with a range of technical and operations disciplines spanning many cross-functional teams to define engineering requirements and manage the resolution of challenges associated with integrating key technologies into the product. Partner with overseas manufacturers to ensure designed parts are mass producible. Resolve issues and ensure the design meets requirements throughout its lifecycle by applying mechanical and material engineering principles to conduct failure analysis and determine root cause. Parse and synthesize large datasets and complicated design details into visual summaries that clearly communicate issues and proposed solutions. Develop innovative analysis tools and methods to assess performance of new, breakthrough technologies invented for iPhone. International travel required 20%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 - $214,500/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required:
Using 3D CAD to model novel mechanical and electromechanical components, including the incorporation of complex industrial design surfaces for cosmetic aspects of the product.
Designing for manufacturability (DFM), including familiarity with display overmolding, flexible printed circuit board fabrication, sheet metal stamping, plastic/metal injection molding, and CNC machining, to ensure parts can be produced at high volume
Designing for assembly (DFA) to enable high speed assembly operations with high repeatability.
Conducting tolerance stack-up analysis to guarantee components assemble and perform as expected across entire range of manufacturing variation.
Conducting static and dynamic mechanical analyses to ensure designs meet load objectives at time zero and across all critical stress types (drop, bend, impact, etc).
Applying heat transfer principles to enable individual modules and full product to achieve thermal objectives relative to safety, comfort, and performance.
Applying mechanics of materials principles in communication with other designers and collaborators on the interaction between material behavior and product performance.
Creating and reviewing technical drawings for communicating design intent with peers and suppliers, including proper controls on critical features.
Applying finite element method fundamentals during collaboration with subject matter experts on simulations of parts and complex systems subjected to a variety of test conditions.
