Description
Develop and implement coatings that achieve challenging cosmetic & functional requirements in our highly visible enclosure designs.
- Work with Apple’s Industrial Design and Product Design teams to create working specifications related to coating processes
- Collaborate with premier equipment and process manufacturing partners to create next-generation processes and test limits of process capabilities
- Determine feasibility to achieve aggressive goals evaluating manufacturing processes at early stages of product development
- Plan and execute studies to confirm process capability to achieve technical goals for high volume programs
- Present analysis to key decision makers that will be used to make commercial and design commitments
- Work directly with overseas manufacturers implementing solutions meeting high-volume commercial goals
- Periodic domestic and overseas travel expected (up to 30%)
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
5+ years of experience in hands-on development of PVD and CVD coatings in R&D and/or production environment
Expertise relating material properties to design requirements, process drivers, and test methodologies
Expertise using advanced analytical techniques (such as SEM, EDS, FTIR, TEM, Ellipsometry & XPS) to characterize film quality or troubleshoot failure modes
Ability to lead a development program to a schedule from research phase into manufacturing execution in a matrixed organization
Excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to drive root cause analysis and corrective action activities
Experience designing thin-film stacks tailored to specific functions, establishing and validating coating processes for mass production
History developing coating for cosmetic surfaces
Ability to travel internationally up to 30%
Preferred Qualifications
MS in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent preferred
Experience in a multinational organization working on cross-functional teams
Self-motivated with a dedication to delivering high quality results in a dynamic environment
Attention to detail, consistent follow-through, implement solutions and the ability to remain focused on strategic goals while managing day-to-day project activities
