We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Staff Engineer to join our multifaceted, self-led engineering team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across multiple teams and domains, influencing architecture, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, high-quality systems that power our real-time expense management platform. This is a high-impact role suited for individuals who flourish with multi-functional collaboration, are comfortable with ambiguity, and can drive technical excellence at scale.

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Staff Engineer to join the Global Servicing Technology team at American Express. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving technological innovation, architecting scalable solutions, and providing leadership to a team of highly skilled engineers. The ideal candidate will have a consistent track record of designing and implementing ground breaking systems, a passion for new technologies, and a commitment to driving excellence in a fast-paced, global environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide strategic technical leadership to the Global Servicing Technology team, influencing the direction of technology solutions and ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Mentor and guide a team of engineers, encouraging a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Innovation and Technology Roadmap

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to define and implement a technology roadmap that supports the evolution of Global Servicing capabilities.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and standard methodologies, integrating relevant innovations into the organization's technical strategy.

System Architecture and Design

  • Own the design and architecture of sophisticated, scalable, and reliable systems that meet business requirements and performance objectives.

  • Ensure that solutions are aligned with enterprise architecture standards and principles.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with product owners, business analysts, and other collaborators to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements.

  • Optimally communicate technical concepts to non-technical collaborators and develop collaboration across teams and departments.

Quality Assurance and Best Practices

  • Drive engineering excellence by promoting best practices in coding standards, code reviews, testing methodologies, and deployment processes.

  • Implement and champion DevOps practices to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the development and deployment lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Proven experience as a technical leader or Staff engineer in a large-scale, global organization.

  • Strong expertise in system architecture, design patterns, and software development best practices.

  • Proficient in multiple programming languages and technologies.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in the financial services industry.

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually bonus benefits.
