As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

We are seeking a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to design, implement, and manage reliability frameworks for our mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, Ansible, Litmus Chaos, and Go programming, and will contribute to building cloud-native reliability solutions, automation, and self-healing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain SRE frameworks for critical applications running on cloud-native infrastructure.

  • Build automation and orchestration solutions using Kubernetes Operators, Ansible, and Go.

  • Integrate and manage chaos engineering practices with Litmus Chaos to validate resilience and fault-tolerance.

  • Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, and golden-signal-based observability for microservices and databases.

  • Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and post-mortems for production issues.

  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and platform engineering teams to embed reliability and scalability best practices into design and deployments.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, release validation frameworks, and automation for failover, patching, and recovery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 5 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering roles.

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

  • Kubernetes (clusters, operators, CRDs, networking, scaling).

  • Ansible (playbooks, automation workflows).

  • Go programming (building operators, controllers, or automation services).

  • Chaos Engineering tools (preferably Litmus Chaos).

  • Experience managing production microservices at scale in cloud or hybrid environments.

  • Solid understanding of observability principles (metrics, logs, traces, SLOs/SLIs).

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, networking, and distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services or other high-availability industries.

  • Prior contributions to cloud-native frameworks, operators, or open-source SRE tools.

  • Hands-on experience with databases (Postgres, MySQL, Redis) and messaging systems.

  • Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools like ArgoCD or Flux.

  • Knowledge of resiliency testing frameworks, failover automation, and release validation systems.

  • Strong background in incident analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, blameless postmortems).

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
