Job Description
AbbVie is looking for a Senior Scientist I to join our siRNA group within the Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) department. This role will involve designing and executing innovative experimental approaches to address key scientific challenges related to oligonucleotide therapeutics. The successful candidate will drive scientific innovation, identify new methods and techniques, and collaborate across functions to support the development of novel RNA-based therapies.
Responsibilities:
Lead research efforts within a cross-functional team to advance siRNA platform development for therapeutic applications.
Resolve key project hurdles and assumptions utilizing available information and technical expertise
Work autonomously to perform laboratory research or develop methods with minimal supervision, consistently delivering high-quality results.
Demonstrate expertise in a wide range of relevant technologies and methodologies.
Conceive and execute novel scientific research that achieves project goals
Maintain high productivity in the laboratory, ensuring efficiency in experiment execution.
Analyze and interpret multidisciplinary data, generating conclusions that drive future experimental directions.
Contribute as a primary author to publications, presentations and/or as a primary inventor of patents.
Qualifications
BS, MS, or PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0+ (PhD) years of relevant experience.
Extensive hands-on experience in the design, development, optimization, and validation of in vitro assays to support oligonucleotide and/or RNA-based therapeutic development is required.
Strong background in cell and molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, mRNA isolation and quantitation (qPCR), ELISA, Western blot, and nucleic acid sequencing (NGS/Sanger).
Proven ability to troubleshoot and refine assays to enhance sensitivity, reproducibility, and throughput.
Demonstrated track record of independently developing fit-for-purpose assays that directly inform lead optimization and mechanism-of-action studies.
Familiarity with CNS disease models and DNA/RNA editing tools is highly desired.
Bioinformatics and/or programming experience for data analysis is a strong asset.
Exceptional scientific rigor, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize data into actionable insights.
Highly self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience contributing to technical reports, publications, or regulatory documentation.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
