How will you make an impact in this role?

This position requires an experienced, proactive, and independent paralegal with experience in U.S. and foreign trademark prosecution and enforcement matters to provide support to American Express’s trademark and copyright legal team. Must be able to identify and prioritize tasks based on a multitude of factors, including deadlines and expectations. Must be collaborative and flexible, with a determination to engage with clients and other team-members. Must have strong organizational and writing skills. Must be detail oriented and thorough.

Primary job functions:

  • Prepare and oversee filing, prosecution, and maintenance of intellectual property domestically and internationally

  • Prepare and file WIPO applications and maintenance filings

  • Collect and assess acceptable specimens of use for submission to the USPTO

  • Conduct global trademark clearance, including running preliminary trademark searches and coordinating any foreign clearances.

  • Communicate with clients regarding prosecution, enforcement and clearance.

  • Assist with anti-counterfeiting matters, including online brand protection, global customs recordals, coordinating attorney trainings, and other related activities.

  • Liaise with foreign agents regarding foreign filing requirements for trademark prosecution and maintenance, as well as any invalidation, cancellation or enforcement actions.

  • Assist in filing of UDRP and TTAB-related documents as needed.

  • Conduct legal research

  • Correspondence with clients, counsel and outside counsel on prosecution and maintenance requirements

  • Draft Office Action Responses and client correspondence

  • Manage the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) program

  • Coordinate legalization of documents used domestically and internationally

  • Assisting with other non-prosecution trademark and copyright projects from time to time

  • Other administrative responsibilities as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate

  • Minimum seven years of Trademark Paralegal experience

  • Prior Law Firm or In-house experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products

  • Proficiency with Clarivate and/or Corsearch products

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with an emphasis on providing quality customer service

  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with clients.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure

  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
