As a Data Center Mechanical SME, you will support the design, and take ownership of the implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems instrumental to our data center's cooling and water treatment infrastructure. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring optimal operating efficiency and reliability of our critical IT environments.
Description
This full time in-person position will play a crucial role in optimizing and maintaining the mechanical systems that ensure the efficiency and performance of Apple data centers. You will bridge the technical and operational aspects of infrastructure, focusing on HVAC systems, cooling strategies, free-cooling technologies, water quality and consumption, and energy efficiency measures to meet the cooling requirements within the data center.
You will collaborate with various partners to including engineers, IT professionals, and facility managers, to develop and implement efficient solutions that improve capacity, availability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Additionally, you will act as the primary operational mechanical engineering resource for the data center campus, providing technical advice and support throughout the entire lifecycle of Apple data centers—from project initiation to continuous improvement.
This role requires continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends and technologies, ensuring that you bring innovative and efficient solutions to critical data center operations.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of relevant mechanical industry experience, or a Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience
Hands-on experience in maintaining, diagnosing, and testing mechanical systems such as chillers, evaporative cooling, DX cooling, water distribution, pumps, motors, or similar equipment in data center or comparable environments
Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach and lift as required, on a continuous basis, with items that can weigh up to 75 lbs
Ability to work extended hours within a Data Center Environment and typically within a heat range of 60 degrees Fahrenheit upwards of 110 degrees Fahrenheit while following OSHA driven work rest cycles
Ability to climb and use a ladder varying in types from A-Frame to extension ladders at various heights
Preferred Qualifications
7+ years of relevant mechanical industry experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience
Proficient in critical facility operations with experience in or knowledge of procedure-based work
Experience interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
Experience in maintaining mechanical systems for large-scale high-density data centers
Understanding of water treatment, filtration, testing, and regulatory compliance
Familiarity with ASHRAE standards
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Strong technical writing and presentation abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborate team
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
