The Amex Digital Labs team drives innovation at American Express by originating, incubating, and managing products and platforms that are essential to our customers’ digital lives. We are a fast-paced team that levers emerging technologies to develop digital payment and financial services products and engaging membership experiences for Card Members. We often collaborate with technology companies and strategic partners to bring products to market.
We are looking for a product director to enable Agentic Commerce and Agentic Partner Experiences for Amex Card Members. This role will focus on the strategy and delivery of novel frameworks and capabilities to ensure Card Members, Amex, and merchants can seamlessly and securely transact. Naturally, the work will involve going deep into existing card payments and agentic experiences. In addition, this product director will lead strategy and development for new Amex Membership experiences within AI-native/LLM partner channels.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Working together with your team and Labs partners, you will lead.
Product Strategy Development:
Partner deeply with engineering teams to understand and develop a perspective on evolving technologies (Model Context Protocol, Agent-to-Agent Protocol, Agentic Payments Protocol, x402) for AI agent-facilitated payments and Membership experiences.
Form a comprehensive strategy for the development of novel frameworks, foundational capabilities, and new products and features.
Product Roadmap Management and Delivery Planning :
Drive the development and execution of a detailed product roadmap, prioritizing features, and enhancements to optimize user engagement, repeat usage, and revenue.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with and influence engineering, design, business development, enablement, customer servicing, and other teams to seamlessly deliver new features.
Partner Integration & Management:
Cultivate relationships with external partner counterparts in support of joint product goals.
User Insights & Analytics:
Apply qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques to gain deep insights into user behavior, preferences, and trends, using findings to refine product strategies, improve user experience, and drive growth.
Team Leadership and Coaching:
Provide authentic and empathetic leadership to your product team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Encourage innovation, continuous learning, and accountability to drive product management excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
We are seeking a Product Director with a passion for technology, a clear focus on the customer, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide clarity and direction across teams.
7 years experience working in product development, either in payments or AI
Ability to inspire, coach, and lead a high performing team of product managers
Enthusiasm for exceptional products and services, deep customer empathy, keen product intuition, and skilled at articulation of product functionality
Understanding of tech and product development processes, known as a business person who can talk tech
Ability to reconcile competing needs across customers, stakeholders, and partners; gather the information, assess tradeoffs and risks, gain buy-in, make an informed decision, and support that decision with compelling evidence
Curiosity and hunger to know how things work and ability to use that knowledge to make connections and find opportunities, with an entrepreneurial mindset
Skilled at transitioning back and forth between big picture strategy and deep details
Technically literate with a deep appreciation of the engineering team and partnership
Experience successfully leading and growing partner relationships
Compelling communication skills, able to effectively convey product strategy and vision, adept at explaining complex concepts to a wide audience
Ability to prioritize roadmaps across multiple competing priorities and timelines, with consideration of user needs, technical feasibility, and business outcomes
Clear understanding of customer research frameworks and principles; able to articulate a strong point of view that is backed by knowledge of the industry and customer needs

Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
