Job Description
Role Number: 200662003-3749
Summary
We’re a diverse collection of thinkers and doers, continually reimagining what’s possible to help us all do what we love in new ways. The people who work here have reinvented entire industries with the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, as well as with services, including iTunes, the App Store, Apple Music, and Apple Pay. And the same passion for innovation that goes into our products also applies to our practices — strengthening our commitment to leave the world better than we found it!
The Vision Product Group (VPG) is a team of passionate engineers who are responsible for designing, prototyping, analyzing, and launching the next generations of new products at Apple.?
In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to architecting Apple’s next-generation AI hardware by leading the definition of sensing system concepts for our next generation of augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) devices. With your help, we will push the boundaries of these technologies to fulfill Apple’s vision of seamless and effortless interaction with real and digital worlds.
Description
As a highly technical and motivated Sensing Systems Engineer, you possess a comprehensive understanding of cameras, motion sensors, and other sensing technologies. You are experienced in designing constellations of sensors that address the overall perceptual requirements of a system. You possess a deep understanding of how sensor choices impact system-level features, and how system-level requirements can in turn constrain sensing solutions. You have a keen sense of user experience as it is impacted by sensing strategy and can effectively communicate these complex trades.
A key focus of your work will be to explore the design space of sense constellations and to frame and moderate the system-level trades that optimize the product design in terms of product size, cost, power, and performance. This is a highly cross-functional and interdependent role where you will collaborate with sensor module, hardware, product design, algorithm, and user experience teams on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field (EE, Physics, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, CS, Applied Math)
5+ years of work experience in system design, integration, and productization in Consumer Electronics, Medical, or Aerospace industries
Proficiency in one or more areas of sensor technology and sensor processing methodologies used in optics, camera, motion sensing
Proficiency in statistical concepts and expertise in data analysis tools
Detailed, disciplined, methodical approach, with good documentation habits
A great teammate with exceptional conversational & written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in a relevant field (EE, Physics, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, CS, Applied Math)
Hands-on knowledge of computer vision, signal processing, and machine learning concepts
Know-how of 6DOF tracking, state estimation, and calibration technologies
Experience in using AI assistants and agents for coding, analysis, and visualization
Experience in integrating cameras, displays, and motion sensors into consumer electronics products, with an understanding of the optics/sensor/image pipeline
Experience with prototyping and evaluating proof of concept sensing solutions in laboratory environments
