As a Hardware Engineering (HWE) Global License Manager, you will understand the Software
License requirements across HWE; drive and manage process improvements on deploying,
tracking and re-harvesting of licenses to avoid unnecessary spending and maximize Software
asset value across Hardware Engineering at Apple.
In this highly visible role, your primary responsibility is to lead in the business aspects of EDA
and CAD Licensing Administration as part of the HMTS PMO Team. You will coordinate with
engineering Procurement teams evaluating license needs and yearly planning. You will use
license forecasting and tracking to provide guidance for purchasing. Technical areas of
responsibility include vendor license maintenance, management and deployment from
evaluation to production. Assist other team members with triage/debug of user licensing
issues. Additional responsibilities include working on and specifying automation to improve the
license administration process.

Description

As a centralized HWE point of contact for all Software Licenses, design and develop a solid
model for Software Feature Mapping, Usage and Capacity Analysis for all HWE Remix and
Renewals. Partner with Corporate Procurement and collaborate with multiple organizations/
Engineering teams, Vendors and IT to enable successful Vendor License negotiations through,
real time and historical license usage reports. Drive/assist license forecast data collection and
analysis in alignment with maintaining a complete SW License Budget and tracking. Co-
ordinate and manage vendor license installation, deployment and allocation across multiple
sites and time-zones. Track license expirations and renewals; use knowledge of purchase
agreements to advise engineering decisions on licenses available, purchase or renewals.
Optimize usage of existing software inventory management tools that allow discovery and
reporting on Apple HWE’s software assets; and partner on planning and provide
recommendations for a long-term tools roadmap including emerging and future technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Engineering (any discipline) required +4 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Electrical or Mechanical and/or MS preferred

  • Experience in managing software licensing for major industry CAD tools software publishers

  • 3 to 4 years of proven experience with Software License Management, license monitoring,

  • and/or license administration, Flexlm and/or other license daemons required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EDA and CAD vendor license format/syntax and parsing/reporting.

  • Working knowledge of PDM/PLM usage, NX, Teamcenter highly preferred, and how they integrate with CAD and other systems.

  • Working knowledge of EDA tools such as ConceptHDL, Allegro, System Capture and understanding of system design methodologies.

  • Strong leadership and relationship building skills; the ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication skills and an aptitude for blending qualitative and quantitative data into executive level presentations and messaging.

  • Well-organized, self-directed, and adaptable; able to balance multiple projects with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.

  • Fast learner, ability to pick up scripting skills in Perl, Python, TCL or Shell.

  • Ability to handle a high engineering support load and co-ordinate with multiple users and management across multiple teams and time-zones.

  • Experience in software contracts and licensing metrics with strong quantitative skills.

  • Excellent Excel skills for metrics reporting and analysis.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Experience in coordinating with cross functional teams from legal, sourcing and business units.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, amendments, etc.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented, collaborative work environment.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to execute on details.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively across multiple levels of management and functions including executive leadership.
