Summary
The Audio PD Lab Technician role supports the Product Design Engineering group working on AirPods. This role is responsible for managing the PD lab and supporting AirPods-related studies. This is a highly dynamic role, and will evolve with the team’s needs.
Description
Managing one or more lab spaces, including procurement of lab supplies and tools
Supporting inspection and maintenance requirements for lab spaces
Building of electronic devices and mechanical fixtures necessary for testing products
Testing prototype samples or devices in mechanical test setups or user studies
Analyzing test data to identify product defects / user study findings, and preparing reports
Partnering with engineers, program managers, and cross-functional teams to enable studies
Learning new tools quickly and recommending process improvements
Keeping up to date on Audio industry trends and products
Presenting results to the team on a regular basis
Occasional travel to other lab locations (1-2 times a year)
In-office support M-F (5 days a week)
Minimum Qualifications
Technician diploma from a mechatronics / mechanical / electronics program or greater, or equivalent hands-on experience
Experience producing written scientific test reports
Good understanding of the scientific method and how to apply to product development
Quick to learn and apply new tools, software, and lab techniques
Hands-on experience in prototype work and building of test jigs and fixtures
Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, laser cutter, 3D printers), electronic product assembly, and basic soldering skills
Experience with lab measurement, imaging, and data collection workflows
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with metrology equipment (CMM, OMM, microscopy, laser scanners)
Familiarity with data acquisition systems - (HBM, Nat'l Instruments)
Computer skills and proficiency with Keynote and Numbers (or PowerPoint and Excel)
Experience with technical writing, for communicating test plans & results
Experience using Instron or other materials testing equipment
CAD modeling and drafting skills (SolidWorks, Pro/e, NX, etc).
Familiarity with telemetry (force sensors, accelerometers, lasers, temperature, pressure)
Experience installing and using strain gauges
Ability to read schematics
Experience with basic electronics equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter)
Good mechanical intuition and/or hands-on experience with small electromechanical devices
Acoustic measurements, shock and vibration testing, and/or environmental testing
Programming (MATLAB, LabView, Python, etc)
