This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL

Purpose

As part of AbbVie's Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Information Research (IR) organization, the Business Systems Analyst for the AbbVie R&D Convergence Hub (ARCH) plays a pivotal role in advancing our R&D data and analytics platform. This position is essential in developing, maintaining, and enhancing applications, contributing to key strategic initiatives that drive innovation and improve therapeutic outcomes.

The Business Systems Analyst provides specialized technical or business expertise to system projects, ensuring the successful delivery and operation of data within the platform. They are responsible for monitoring system performance and ensuring platform accessibility, maintaining the integrity and reliability of our data solutions. Furthermore, the analyst actively participates in identifying and implementing system modifications that enhance productivity and efficiency, thereby maximizing the value delivered by the ARCH platform.

As a crucial liaison between business stakeholders and IT, the analyst translates business requirements into effective technological solutions that align with executive vision. This involves analyzing and documenting business process flows, accurately capturing requirements, and identifying opportunities for system improvements. Leading efforts in system implementation, the analyst also provides ongoing support to ensure seamless integration and operation.

Joining the ARCH team provides an exciting opportunity to engage with a dynamic R&D data platform that accelerates data-driven insights for improved decision-making and patient therapies. This role supports a culture of data-driven innovation, enhancing R&D productivity through shorter cycles and unlocking insights into novel therapies and emerging concepts. By facilitating these processes, the Business Systems Analyst will contribute significantly to making cures possible, positively impacting patients' lives and advancing AbbVie's broader mission.

Responsibilities

  • Business Relationship Management – Continue to build on and maintain strong relationships with business leaders and stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and drive strategic initiatives.

  • System Ownership, Accountability, and Vendor Engagement – Take ownership of systems within the ARCH platform, ensuring they are well-maintained, optimized, and compliant. Engage with vendors to facilitate system enhancements and troubleshoot issues, ensuring that external partnerships align with business needs and objectives.

  • Process Optimization – Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce redundancies within the ARCH platform operations & applications.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Foster strong collaboration with Convergence and other IR teams and business areas to ensure alignment and support for strategic objectives across the organization.

  • Project Management – Deliver valuable support to diverse areas ensuring smooth operations and progress. Utilize relevant principles to enhance projects and ongoing activities. Complete tasks that drive the success of projects and empower functional teams.

  • Self-Reliant Team Player – Work effectively with team/group as well as independently to accomplish organizational goals. Actively participate in business or team meetings by offering suggestions. Regular assignments are completed with minimal supervision.

  • Problem Solving – Utilize analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose issues, develop solutions, and make informed recommendations by evaluating business and technology needs. Approach challenges with sound judgment and flexibility, ensuring decisions align with project objectives, business needs and contribute to successful outcomes.

  • Change Management – Lead and support change management efforts to facilitate the smooth transition and implementation of new systems and processes. Develop strategies to manage resistance, engage stakeholders, and ensure user adoption for successful integration with existing operations.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience or Master's degree in Information Systems or related field is required.

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, including planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Adept in Agile framework and Scrum/Kanban methodologies with experience using tools such as Jira or Confluence.

  • Proficiency with SQL and database management.

  • Experience in the systems development, implementation, and operations of large-scale, enterprise systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to effectively lead and facilitate meetings with customers and technical team members.

  • Must be deliverable-focused and detail-oriented.

  • Must exhibit exceptional teamwork skills.

  • Must have a strong customer focus.

Beneficial

  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Cloudera and graph databases such as Neo4j.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Life sciences and healthcare analytics strongly preferred.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.??
