The Clinical Innovation team is an ambitious team of Scientists, Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Developers with a unique blend of business, scientific, and technical expertise. We deliver transformative solutions to advance evidence generation, interpretation and utilization. As the program continues to grow, we’re seeking a visionary to drive the development of core capabilities toward an approach designed to consider, measure and interpret all elements that contribute to a personalized outcome.

As a Director II in Clinical Innovation, you will play a leadership role in building the future of evidence generation designed to modernize the approach to clinical design. The position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to translate strategic vision into tactical action, synthesize complex issues into actionable solutions, identify the highest impact ideas and plans and focus team efforts and communicate value effectively to all levels of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate strategic vision into tactical action with clearly defined milestones, identify the highest impact ideas and plans, and focus efforts to work efficiently.

• Lead high-performing science, engineering and data sciences teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Build strong partnership and establish areas of shared responsibilities with your Clinical Innovation counterpart to co-develop creative clinical design and endpoints.

• Build strong knowledge base for cross-franchise priorities; foster a continuous learning mindset to become an expert on competitor approach to evidence generation and be able to contextualize strategy in the context of the bigger picture.

• Identify and cultivate strong functional and cross functional (Regulatory, Biostatistics, Discovery Sciences, BTS, Commercial etc) relationships to drive organizational synergies.

• Stay ahead of emerging science, technologies and trends to identify areas where we may drive efficiencies by sourcing capabilities externally.

• Collaborate with project management to ensure robust tracking system is developed and monitored closely.

• Evaluate and optimize existing capabilities, identifying opportunities for developing new capabilities and improve performance, cost, and integration.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 10+ years of experience in technical area, with at least 5 years in a leadership role; management consulting experience preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and motivate diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.

• Capability building / Change management skills – leverage empathy and coaching with functional stakeholder to achieve organizational buy-in and long-lasting changes.

• Highly collaborative, genuinely enjoys working hand-in-hand in team environment to develop solutions that advance AbbVie’s overall mission.

• Experience managing large projects within a complex matrixed organization, either as an external consultant or an internal cross-functional lead.

• Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate brainstorming workshops to bring new ideas to fruition. Helping the team turn ideas into reality.

• Good commercial, entrepreneurial and innovative thinking/analytical skills, comfortable with ambiguity.

• Recognized ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure balanced risk assessments are made.

• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
