We are looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to deliver world-class software solutions supporting our platform vision. This includes using leading-edge modern technology stack, fostering engineering culture, innovation using new capabilities, designing, and building new ways to enhance and expose our capabilities via API’s, cultivating continual improvement in system quality, performance, and robust coding frameworks.
Translate user needs into system requirements and solution design, partner Senior Engineer(s) to ensure design meets technology standards and uses appropriate design patterns. Develop software applications to high coding standards, ensure code is testable throughout and meets the resilience of test automation tools. Measure and optimize application code performance and integration of component systems. Support deployment of changes into production. Ensure adherence to CI/CD toolsets.
As Manager, Software Engineering, you will also be a people leader who is skilled and an enthusiastic Engineering leader with an enquiring mind and tons of energy to actively provide people-leadership, promote learning and growth of engineering teams and ultimately build a strong engineering culture and happy productive team members. As Manager, Software Engineering you will have hands on with the design, coding and reviews, taking the lead on strategic outcomes and support solving of complex challenges.
As a people leader for multiple scrum teams, span of control of 6 or more team members, including both colleagues and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Manages and leads a team of Software Engineering colleagues, enabling a culture of continuous learning, growth opportunities, and inclusivity for all individual colleagues and teams
Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching to Software Engineering teams, supporting training and development of best practices
Recruits colleagues with relevant experience, and develops, rewards, and energizes an effective team
Supervises the design, development, testing, and deployment of large-scale enterprise applications
Oversees technical aspects of Software Engineering, including design, prototyping, and coding assignments for assigned applications
Collaborates with internal teams and technical product managers to deliver platform improvements and enhancements
Establishes and enforces engineering practices across teams, including code review, build and release processes, and retrospective effectiveness
Empowers teams to automate scalable application deployments in test and production environments
Collaborates with leadership to define technical solutions and drive software maturity and best practices
Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives
Education and Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferred
Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL, and relational databases
Knowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)
Java - Java 11 experience building enterprise applications with proven design patterns
Spring - Experience/knowledge with the Spring framework, specifically Spring Boot and RESTful APIs
VertX – Experience/knowledge with VertX
Databases – Experience/knowledge of RMDBMS databases.
NoSQL - Experience/knowledge with NoSQL databases such as Couchbase is an advantage.
React - Experience/knowledge for front-end (UI) development is an advantage.
CI/CD - Build pipelines for continue integration and delivery: Git, Jenkins, etc.
Testing Frameworks - Experience with Testing Frameworks for backend/front-end and backend automation testing
JBPM - Understanding of JBoss BPM to build simple workflow (rules/process) solutions is an advantage.
PaaS - Experience/knowledge of AWS is an advantage.
Work Experience
Software engineering and development experience or a related job with 8 years’ experience
Expertise in application design, software development, and automated testing
Experience in distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories
Experience in automation testing and documentation (i.e. automated, functional, and performance)
Willingness to learn new technologies and exploit them to their optimal potential
Qualifications
Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
