Job Description

Purpose:

To provide routine and essential care and support to laboratory animals.

Responsibilities:

  • Completely follow established procedures and protocols with supervision according to required schedules (including off-hours, weekends, and holidays)

  • Recognize, clearly communicate, and document procedural variances.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including sanitization, and stocking supplies when appropriate.

  • Learn basic technical skills under the supervision of a veterinary technician.

  • Observe performance of and troubleshoot instrumentation.

  • Complete all assigned and required trainings prior to deadlines.

  • Use experience and training to make routine decisions to execute responsibilities.

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards and regulatory requirements regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.

  • Learn technical proficiency in his/her field under the supervision of a veterinary technician. Complete training in required skills and multiple techniques.

  • Documentation of tasks and observations, and adherence to designated task schedules and departmental Standard Operating Procedures.

Qualifications

  • A.S. or equivalent degree, eligible to take the VTNE preferred.

  • Physical dexterity, visual and auditory acuity, organizational and time management skills, and sensitivity to changes in environmental conditions encountered in task performance

  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, internet browser navigation, and communication such as email and messaging

  • Able to lift 50 pounds, perform repetitive procedures, and stand or walk for extended periods of time

  • Practical knowledge, including basic calculations, to carry out job function.
