Description

APPLE INC has the following available in Boulder, Colorado. Design, develop and engineer customer facing hardware products, focused on ear tips and ergonomic fit: CAD design of novel ear tips for audio products; CAD design of audio products to optimize form factor considering ergonomic factors, including analysis of contact heat maps; Collaborate with acoustics, manufacturing, human factors, biomechanics, and material science teams to develop novel audio enclosure and ear tip concepts for audio products; Coordination of prototypes for audio product enclosures and ear tips, including at least the following methods: CNC, 2-shot molding, and rapid prototyping; Design of prototypes for ergonomics and acoustics testing, including integration of required electronics; Design of parts using two-shot silicone molding techniques. Collaborate directly and independently with industrial design, marketing, manufacturing and technology groups to build product-level definition and set the specifications and requirements of the physical product: Responsible for content creation and presentation of designs and layout studies to Executives and ID team for progress updates and key milestone decisions. Coordinate and oversee integration of all mechanical structures, advanced materials, and electro-mechanical subsystems, including PCB/flex, antenna, sensors modules, and product level tradeoffs. Coordinate hardware, core technology, reliability, operations, automation, quality and marketing to produce and validate mass production capable design. Provide leadership and direction of design activities through all stages of the product life-cycle, from concept definition through production release and end of life. Interaction with Executives and ID team to communicate progress and support key milestone decisions. 15% International, 10% Domestic Travel Required. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $132,100 - $199,000/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field, and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.

  • 1 year of experience in the following required skills:

  • Utilizing NX to work on 3D design and 2D drafting for part design, DFM, and production.

  • Utilizing NX and engaging with FEA engineers to run complex simulations for understanding mechanical system behavior.

  • Designing and releasing 2D and 3D part files for manufacturing team and vendor review, including design iteration based on feedback or test results, and carrying design iterations through development builds to mass production.

  • Working with general materials used in consumer product design including metals, plastics, adhesives, and/or brittle materials to select appropriate materials for mechanical designs and to drive failure analysis during design development.

  • Utilizing reliability testing and collaborate with reliability engineers to determine if mechanical and electromechanical designs and systems will meet product specifications. Set product reliability specifications for a design based on anticipated use cases. Drive failure analysis for issues identified during reliability testing and determine root cause and corrective action for designs.

  • Developing initial novel designs, iterate on designs using experimental tests and simulations, and integrate into complex systems.

  • Designing full subassemblies comprised of individual parts, to enable ability to be assembled and function as intended.

  • Building tolerance stack for critical-to-function dimensions in complex assemblies to make decisions for manufacturing and assembly tolerances and to reject poor quality parts.

  • Creating strategy for testing designs using a methodical approach, to inform decisions for understanding open design questions or down-selecting designs.

  • Using failure analysis techniques, including fishbone diagrams, DOEs, commonality analysis, and analytical methods, for example, to determine the mechanism for a failure occurring and to drive mitigations.
