Editors on the copy and standards team work to ensure that our team’s copy is error-free, stylistically sound, and adheres to News standards.

Description

The right person for this role has experience copyediting for a major news organization. We’re looking for someone who has experience with a variety of content-management systems and a keen understanding of the tools that support state-of-the-art editorial. Our next editor will have both copyediting skills and a strong grasp of journalistic ethics and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least four years’ experience copyediting for a professional news publication.

  • Strong proofreading, line-editing, and copyediting skills.

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work flexibly with other editorial-team members.

  • Strong critical-thinking skills.

  • Firm grasp of journalistic ethics and standards.

  • Familiarity with a variety of style guides.

  • Familiarity with a variety of content-management systems.

  • Experience editing multiple pieces of content on deadline.

  • Experience working to develop or update a style guide for a publication.

  • Fact-checking experience at a professional news publication.

  • An interest in hard news.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree.

  • Understanding of the changing media environment.

  • Experience editing a variety of forms of media.
