Membership Portfolio Services, within our US Consumer Services Business, is responsible for developing and scaling several growing businesses that are strategically important to American Express. We are developing unique and differentiated ways to strengthen the Membership Model across Amex Offers, Advertising, Dining and Marketing Technology.
The Enterprise Comms & MarTech Experiences (ECMX) team is a global organization that sits within Membership Portfolio Services (MPS). It is American Express’ marketing services center of excellence with the charter of powering high quality, efficient, user-centric digital marketing experiences that accelerate business growth through optimized enterprise MarTech & MarOps solutions.
You will be joining ECMX’s MarTech organization, focused on providing frictionless, flexible, and flawless marketing and servicing experiences.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, Digital Product Transformation & Planning, the Director, Strategic Planning & Digital Product Operations will own strategic planning, portfolio management, and operating discipline for ECMX.
This role serves as the central integrator between the business, product and technology—ensuring that priorities, investments, capacity, and execution are aligned to business outcomes. The Director will help shift the organization toward value-stream and outcome-based ways of working, providing senior leadership with the insights and governance needed to make informed trade-off decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Portfolio Management
Lead long-term strategic planning and roadmap development, ensuring alignment with business priorities
Apply portfolio-level thinking to balance near-term delivery with long-term capability building
Drive business modeling and investment trade-off decisions, including prioritization across initiatives, funding scenarios, and capacity constraints
Translate org-wide vision, roadmaps, priorities into compelling narratives for executive presentations
Product Operations
Build and lead a Product Operations Center of Excellence for ECMX
Define, standardize, and continuously evolve:
Product operating rhythms (intake, planning, PI alignment, delivery, retrospectives)
Product artifacts and standards (PRDs, business cases, RCAs, metrics, experiment design)
Enterprise tooling best practices (Jira, planning tools, documentation platforms)
Establish clear ways of working that embed AI and automation into day-to-day product and marketing workflows
Improve flow efficiency, predictability, and execution quality across teams
Partner with the other ECMX Product VPs and leaders to establish predictable, repeatable ways of working by simplifying processes and eliminating non-value-added work.
Analytics, Insights & Decision Support
Deliver actionable insights to senior leadership, translating data into implications for strategy, investment, and execution
Lead scenario planning and trade-off analysis, surfacing risks, dependencies, and opportunity costs
Shift performance measurement toward outcomes and business value, not just delivery milestones or budget tracking
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership
Act as a strategic partner to Lines of Business, Product, and Technology leaders, influencing priorities and shaping enterprise capabilities
Drive alignment across teams and domains around shared outcomes and value streams
Facilitate complex discussions with senior leaders to build consensus and enable timely decision-making
Lead or influence teams and forums to reinforce outcome-oriented thinking and operational discipline
Minimum Qualifications
8 years of experience in strategic planning, product operations, management consulting, or enterprise transformation
Strong business acumen, including experience with technology investment planning, prioritization, and trade-off analysis
Proven ability to influence without direct authority and lead cross-functional initiatives
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for executive audiences
Functional level understanding of Marketing Technology and large-scale Enterprise technology implementations Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting large-scale digital, technology, or platform organizations
Background in operating model transformation or value-stream-based software development
Experience working in highly matrixed or regulated environments

Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
