How will you make an impact in this role?
This Director- U.S. Consumer Deposits Compliance position will play a critical leadership role within the Line of Business Compliance (LOBCO) organization supporting the U.S. Consumer deposits business, including Amex Rewards Checking Account and American Express Savings Accounts offered through American Express National Bank. The position provides independent compliance oversight and second-line challenge to ensure that the U.S. Consumer deposit business’s innovation and growth aligns with applicable laws and regulations for consumer deposit products, features, and processes. Attention will be focused on new product development, marketing strategies, risk management initiatives, process control, issue management, marketing collateral and disclosures, and other customer communications.
Responsibilities:
Provide Compliance oversight, challenge and guidance to U.S. Consumer Deposits business stakeholders on compliance/regulatory requirements applicable to consumer deposit products and features.
Driving implementation of policy and regulatory requirements in the areas of Reg E, Reg DD, Reg CC, NACHA rules, general banking, and other relevant federal, state and local regulations.
Advising leaders on areas of emerging risk and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate.
Support new initiatives through the New Product Governance process, with a strong analytical focus on controls, testing, and ongoing monitoring to implement effective processes.
Support an effective Compliance program including Compliance Risk Assessment, Regulatory Change Management, and contribute to the Business Unit Compliance Assessments, Key Risk Indicators and Regulatory Business Self Testing.
Review proposed marketing campaign materials and strategies, to effectively mitigate compliance risks.
Assess servicing and regulatory-driven customer communications and disclosures.
Effectively manage any Issues and/or Operating Risk Events to ensure timely creation or enhancements of controls, closure of gaps and customer remediation where required.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and internal stakeholders (e.g., other Global Risk and Compliance colleagues, General Counsel Organization, Privacy, Internal Audit Group).
Keep abreast of U.S. consumer regulations and trends for potential impact to Compliance risk assessments.
Assist in preparation for regulatory inquiries and examinations.
Additional responsibilities based on team need.
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years in Compliance or related activities within financial services industry, with demonstrated regulatory knowledge of and expertise in deposit banking regulations, including Regulations DD, E, CC, UDAAP, NACHA rules and related guidance.
Prior compliance or related experience with the end-to-end deposit life cycle, including account acquisition, ATM, debit cards, money movement, servicing, and account restrictions.
Ability to research, assess, and determine regulatory impact to business initiatives.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of compliance risk management practices and methodologies, including risk and control assessments.
Strong leadership skills and proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization, including the ability to influence and/or challenge others to achieve desired results.
Strong people skills and experience working in a matrixed and agile environment and on cross-functional teams.
Ability to effectively communicate compliance risks and requirements to achieve desired results.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks in a time sensitive environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proactive, results-oriented, and self-driven.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with digital and mobile banking products and platforms preferred.
Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or similar professional certification preferred.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
