As an engineer on the team, you’ll help design and deliver secure, privacy-focused APIs that operate at global scale. Our systems handle billions of requests with high reliability and performance, enabling some of Apple’s most critical and continuously available services.
Description
We’re looking for a thoughtful and experienced engineer to craft the next generation of Apple Maps APIs—built to be intuitive, secure, and performant across both online and offline experiences. You’ll work on low-latency, real-time systems that support location features with strict uptime and availability requirements.
This role involves maintaining and evolving existing systems while designing new capabilities from the ground up. You’ll collaborate closely with teams across Apple, uphold strong software engineering practices, and help ensure user privacy by building systems that protect personal data and safeguard sensitive partner information. While the role is primarily backend-focused, we're looking for someone comfortable working across the stack when needed. The ideal candidate has experience designing scalable APIs that balance performance, reliability, and simplicity, with a strong background of building secure, high-availability infrastructure under heavy load.
Minimum Qualifications
A strong teammate who contributes to an encouraging and inclusive engineering culture.
BS or MS and at least 6 years of practical experience as a software engineer
Strong proficiency in Java
Knowledgeable in scripting languages such as Python or Bash, with experience automating workflows and building tools
Solid understanding of CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, complexity)
Works well in multi-functional environments, collaborating effectively with many other teams across our organization
Communicates clearly and persuasively, builds strong working relationships, and consistently delivers on shared goals
Demonstrates curiosity and a strong ability to learn independently and continuously
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing and running APIs at scale
Experience with large scale storage systems and indexing
Knowledge in concepts such as concurrency, parallelism and multi-threaded systems
Experience with stream and batch processing frameworks and distributed databases
Real world exposure to C++ Experience with full stack development
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
