JobSummary: As an HR Business Partner, you will work collaboratively with corporate teams and store leadership. You will provide guidance and assess Human Resource-related needs for a variety of areas including but not limited to employee relations, labor management, recruitment, performance management, succession planning and learning & development. You proactively communicate issues, trends, and risks to support partners and the HR team to identify solutions to support an engaged workforce. In this role, you plan, organize, and monitor talent acquisition programs and strategies company-wide to source, recruit and ensure top internal talent is identified for key positions in the home office. As an HR Business Partner, you provide clear communication that encourages the team to adopt new solutions and direction to deliver consistent and expected results.

An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate of $90,000, depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.

WhatYouDo:

What You Do:

  • Provide counsel on all employee relations situations, guiding teams on decisions for resolution and ensuring consistency and fairness in resulting actions.

  • Coach hiring managers on developing employee performance through proactive feedback, coaching and counselling to ensure that hiring managers are addressing performance issues timely.

  • Maintain relationships with recruitment vendors (i.e., Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.) to ensure the field and home office job postings are sponsored appropriately.

  • Provide support and strategy to the RHRDs and other HR Business Partners to feature hard to fill roles on B&N Inside home page.

  • Support home office departments on proactive and timely succession planning, supporting leadership to create a viable talent bench for future roles and positions.

  • Recruit for home office positions as needed. Handle the full lifecycle of the recruitment process while ensuring that the interview experience is thoughtful, and everyone is informed at all stages of the process.

  • Actively promote internal mobility by working with leadership to identify high performers and on development plans for promotion.

  • Develop strong relationships with RHRDs to identify relocatable store talent to fill open home office opportunities.

  • Facilitate training programs for the home office and unionized store teams on an as needed basis.

  • Assist with the creation and revision of job descriptions, interview guides, employee handbook and other tools that support the store and/or home office structure.

  • Work with the Director of HR and support bargaining sessions by preparing collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) for the meetings.

  • Edit counter proposals for the CBAs between the Union and the Company by partnering with the appropriate business owners (i.e., Legal, HR, Benefits, Store Operations) to address issues such as grievances, wages, benefits and union and management practices.

  • At the request of the Director of HR, may attend in-person or virtual bargaining sessions.

  • Review, interpret and make recommendations on company policies and procedures with respect to labor issues by partnering with Legal, HR, Benefits and Store Operations.

  • Facilitate training to home office and store leadership and other relevant teams on both maintaining a positive workplace as well as other relevant training programs.

  • Provide training to each store on adherence and understanding of each agreement.

  • Advise on contract interpretation issues and is the point person for questions.

  • Respond to any grievances in partnership with the Director of HR.

  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to come up with ideas for developing solutions, programs, and policies to build employee engagement, support recognition and increase retention.

  • Use exit interview data to evaluate trends, identify and communicate issues for solution and develop strategy to build employee engagement to reduce turnover and retain employees.

  • Leverage remote tools (Teams, Outlook 365, etc.) to support the above.

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 4-6 years of relevant HR experience.
