As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

The Cyber Analytics organization within American Express is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer I to build and deploy innovative analytic solutions that power critical business decisions for the Technology Risk and Information Security (TRIS).

In this role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners — including business analysts, developers, architects, key stakeholders, and vendors — to design and deliver robust, scalable data and reporting solutions. Your work will enable proactive threat detection and risk identification, supporting our mission to safeguard American Express systems and data.

This position requires a well-organized, collaborative, and technically adept professional who can manage multiple initiatives, leverage innovative technologies, and drive enterprise-quality software development with an emphasis on data integrity and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate business requirements into reporting and metric solutions that inform cybersecurity strategies.

  • Architect and build data pipelines and frameworks for complex data curation, extraction, and processing.

  • Integrate innovative technologies and tools across diverse platforms to support analytics and intelligence development.

  • Lead and mentor other team members, setting direction and ensuring best practices.

  • Manage multiple parallel initiatives while delivering on time-sensitive priorities.

  • Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.

  • Detect and address data quality issues to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

  • Optimize queries, stored procedures, and data models for performance and scalability.

  • Collaborate closely with internal and external partners to define strategy and roadmap for the Cyber Analytics reporting program.

  • Maintain strong customer relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Exhibit resilience and composure under tight deadlines or system-related challenges

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Data Analytics (preferred).

  • 7 years of experience in:

  • Designing and managing data pipelines (ETL/ELT, batch, real-time, and complex event processing).

  • Working with relational databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL) and Data Fabric technologies such as Starburst and Apache Iceberg.

  • Utilizing analytics and BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).

  • Proven expertise in stored procedures, functions, query tuning, and performance optimization.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to articulate solution alternatives clearly.

  • Experience in data mining, monitoring, and tuning large datasets.

  • Information Security domain knowledge preferred (tools, frameworks, technologies).

  • Self-driven with the ability to innovate and work independently.

  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or JavaScript is a plus.
