Description
Apple’s Product and Regulatory Legal Group is seeking a Director, Products and Regulatory, to lead a team of attorneys supporting Apple’s Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AIML) technologies and services.
In this role, you will work closely with senior business leaders and colleagues across Apple to help the AIML and Software Engineering groups achieve their business objectives. You will constantly be shifting gears, day-to-day, as a trusted advisor across a variety of legal and business issues, and serve as a critical liaison to other Apple lines of business and legal teams. You will manage a team of attorneys that oversee the development of AIML products and services and the infrastructure and tools required to enable this technology throughout Apple. Your role will require you to think strategically about Apple’s products and services and advise on a diverse range of legal, operational, and PR issues around the deployment of AIML. In this role, you will be expected to proactively advocate for, influence, and implement strategies, partner cross-functionally across legal and Apple-wide teams, drive products, services, strategic deals, and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead a global legal team supporting Apple’s AIML technology and products.
Develop and execute initiatives globally for future products, and internally developed hardware and software AIML services and solutions utilized by Apple business teams.
Manage regulatory and PR risk via collaboration with cross-functional Apple-wide partners, including AIML Regulatory, Government Affairs, PR, Global Security, Worldwide Marketing, Operations, and Legal (litigation, HR, product, IP, services, marketing, and privacy teams).
Mentor and develop team members spanning junior to senior levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Attorney with 15+ years of professional legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department
5+ years in a leadership role managing other attorneys and/or other legal professionals with a positive track record of building and leading high-performing teams
Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree
Admission to at least one US state bar
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years in-house legal experience with significant experience supporting hardware, software, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning products and services.
Extensive product counseling experience.
Experience with negotiating and drafting high-stakes commercial agreements and high-volume transactions.
Knowledge of the global AI regulatory landscape.
Strategic thinker with the ability to effectively balance risk management and business initiatives in high-stakes, fast-paced environments.
Significant experience deftly handling sensitive matters and interpersonal conflict, escalation, and resolution.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to advise and build relationships with leaders, teammates, and cross-functional colleagues.
Insightful analytical skills and strategic business sense with the ability to resolve complex issues in thoughtful, collaborative, and effective ways.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and manage a high volume of complex projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Comfort managing outside counsel to ensure efficient use of funds.
Exemplary judgment and integrity.

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $310,400 and $496,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
