Our Internal Audit Group is a worldwide function with 300 team members and offices across nine countries within American Express. Our mission is to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent, objective, risk-based assurance, advisory services and to influence the way the company manages risk.
We are committed to growing our audit staff significantly as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our assurance and risk professionals have diverse backgrounds including internal controls, consumer compliance, technology, operational risk, financial accounting, data analytics, and banking operations. Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality, and standards; regulatory relations; reporting; training and professional development; and key internal capabilities and technologies.
About the Role
At American Express, we back our colleagues and customers so they can make the most of every opportunity. Within the Internal Audit Group (IAG), we deliver independent assurance, risk insights, and recommendations that strengthen the enterprise and drive continuous improvement.
The Director Assistant will serve as a trusted partner to the PGA and their leadership team—helping to execute strategic goals, enable colleague engagement, and support the overall effectiveness of the Internal Audit function.
Strategic & Operational Support
Works with the PGA to align organizational priorities, drive cross-functional strategic initiatives, and ensure delivery against goals, with an emphasis on setting the agenda to driving flawless execution.
Coordinate team-wide initiatives, tracking deliverables and milestones to ensure alignment and accountability.
Work in collaboration with the Executive Office on Department Wide Initiatives
Support colleague engagement and development programs within Internal Audit.
Partner with HR and Communications on onboarding, talent management, and culture initiatives.
Develop presentations, reports, and communications for senior leadership and key stakeholders, and Town Halls.
Plan and support agendas for effective leadership and colleague meetings across the PGA’s team.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field—or equivalent professional experience.
5 years of experience supporting senior leaders or managing complex programs in a corporate environment.
Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
Proven ability to handle multiple priorities with attention to detail and confidentiality.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Internal Audit, Risk, Finance, or related functions.
Experience in a large, global, matrixed organization.
Familiarity with governance processes, executive reporting, and change management.
Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and outcomes.

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
