Sensing technology empowers Apple products with revolutionary features, such as Touch ID, Face ID and Camera Control Button. We are responsible for the research, design and development of various metrology solution and instrumentations, from technology characterization in laboratory to mass production manufacturing. We are seeking an extraordinary engineer with a deep understanding of the physics behind sensing hardware and mechanical engineering principles. This candidate will have the opportunity to explore the latest sensing technology and deploy novel test infrastructure for the mass production of the next Apple product.
Description
In this Mechanical Test System Engineer role, you will:
- Lead the design and implementation of mechanical subsystems for custom sensor test stations, including fixtures, motion assemblies, enclosures, and mechanical interfaces
- Own the end-to-end mechanical design lifecycle: concept ? CAD ? DFM ? prototype ? validation ? bring-up
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to ensure seamless integration across mechanical, electrical, and software components
- Write and maintain control and automation software to operate motion systems, collect data, and interface with test instrumentation
- Drive on-site fixture debug, bring-up, and validation at global manufacturing facilities
- Continuously optimize test systems for reliability, cycle time, precision, and serviceability
- Build broad technical expertise and develop toward test architecture leadership, influencing the direction of future test platforms
Minimum Qualifications
Solid ME fundamentals in mechanical system design and development for metrology systems or instrumentation.
Understanding of precision mechanical integration.
Proficiency in 3D modeling with CAD Tools, GD&T, tolerance analysis
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of mechanical design experience for test stations, automation equipment, or robotics systems.
Experience with DFM/DFX principles and collaboration with vendors to bring designs into high-volume production
Hands-on experience in C/C++ or Python for hardware control, motion automation, and test instrumentation integration
Proven ability to work cross-functionally with electrical, software, and operations teams to deliver integrated test systems
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment
Self-motivated professional, ability to handle multi-tasking operations and deliver on a tight schedule.
Familiarity with sensor testing challenges, including precise mechanical alignment, thermal drift, and signal integrity
Exposure to hardware interface libraries, motion controllers, or data acquisition frameworks
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $136,300 and $248,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
