How will you make an impact in this role?
The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (“GRC”) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner within all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

GRC’s Enterprise Third-Party Risk Management (ETRM) is hiring a senior manager to provide oversight for third-party risks and related frameworks across American Express. ETRM is part of the Operational Risk Management group of GRC and is responsible for overseeing third-party risks across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express. The team assists in the identification, measurement, monitoring, and management of risks related to the business, products and processes.
This role will support the implementation and execution of the third-party risk governance and oversight framework across American Express globally. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in third-party risk, operational risk management, and second line of defense oversight activities. This position requires strong communication and collaboration skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and rigorous analytical skills to support the risk management objectives of this function.
Responsibilities:
Support the development, implementation, and execution of the enterprise third-party risk oversight framework.
Execute independent risk monitoring and risk reviews as part of ETRM’s effective challenge responsibilities.
Support the development and issuance of regular third-party risk reporting to senior leaders and/or appropriate risk committees.
Review and provide guidance to first line stakeholders on their implementation and execution of the third-party risk management framework.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; degrees in business or related fields, advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc), or certifications are advantageous.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk, compliance, or audit roles in top-tier financial institutions. Equivalent top-tier consulting experience serving these types of financial institutions in these areas will be considered.
Prior Third-Party Risk Management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to effectively manage multiple and often conflicting priorities under tight timeframes, as well as to adapt to frequent change and shifting priorities.
Ability to build strong relationships with all band levels and work effectively in a collaborative, multi-cultural, team environment.
Experience in second line of defense third party risk oversight, as an internal or external auditor, regulatory examiner, or performing risk assurance reviews.
Understanding of operational risk management frameworks and requirements.
Project management experience.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
