The Payments Consulting team delivers go-to-market strategies, deploying new and emerging payment solutions, and ensuring seamless transaction processing experience in over 20 markets globally. Payments Consulting colleagues are trusted advisors to internal and external partners, leaning in with technical payments expertise and insights from the acceptance channel to guide internal strategies, and working directly with merchants, processors, and partners to discover and implement solutions to meet their evolving needs.

The Sr. Manager, Payments Consulting will report to the Director, Payments Consulting Merchant Services U.S. Merchants. The position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical consultant with a customer-first mindset, a track record of collaboration and complex problem solving, and the ability to strategize and implement solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide consultation and product enablement support to merchant customers.

a. Provide product and processing consultancy.

b. Manage and track projects including authorization, submission, reconciliation and disputes enablement.

c. Manage technical enhancement projects in partnership with Technologies, Network, Product teams

d. Build and maintain relationships across the American Express organization.

  1. Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of merchant customers.

a. Develop knowledge of all aspects of merchant’s payment processing environment including history, goals, and organizational drivers.

b. Use knowledge of the merchant and their industry to develop strategic account plans.

c. Share merchant insights and needs to influence capability and product roadmaps.

d. Troubleshoot and remediate merchant payment processing issues.

e. Liaise and lead internal business partners on delivery of technical solutions.

  1. Maintain deep and current knowledge about the payments industry, market trends, new and existing technologies, products and services, and the structure of American Express and customer organizations.

  2. Actively identify and share best practices and manage operational risk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient understanding of card payment authorizations, submissions, and related operational processes across a range of payment products and merchant industries.

  • Proven relationship building and customer management skills.

  • Strong business and technical acumen, with track record of leading complex projects and driving results.

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentations).

  • The ability to articulate complex issues in a simple non-technical manner, and to link technical solutions to strategic outcomes.

  • Highly organized and results driven, with strong ability to be forward thinking and proactive.

  • Ability to operate seamlessly and influence in a globalized, matrix management environment.

  • Flexibility to work across time zones with groups in the U.S. and other regions

  • Potential travel required within U.S.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
