Summary

Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job, and there's no telling what we can accomplish together. We're looking for a hardworking and passionate person to join this amazing team, and if you feel this is you, we'd love to hear from you!

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team is one of the most exciting examples of Apple’s long-held passion for combining art and technology. These are the people who power the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. And they do it on a massive scale, meeting Apple’s high expectations with high performance to deliver a huge variety of entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries.

Description

Our team, ASE Privacy Instrumentation, works with Apple's customer-facing app development teams to answer two key questions: what metrics should we collect to answer key business questions and how will we get those metrics from client devices? We design and develop the data schema and standards for metrics, as well as the tooling that enables teams to collect these metrics, all while keeping user privacy front and center. By joining us your innovative ideas will impact billions of users worldwide and you will contribute to Apple’s magic.

We're looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of product management and engineering, helping us solve problems critical to unlocking business insights on Apple's most important customer software. In this role, you'll define the future of our privacy-first instrumentation capabilities while maintaining hands-on engineering involvement. This isn't your standard engineering role: while you will get the opportunity to write code for our tooling and data infrastructure, the bulk of your time will be focused on technical design, requirements gathering, and cross-functional collaboration.
You’ll be tasked with designing, launching, and supporting new data infrastructure products as necessary to answer high-level analytics questions at scale.

Your responsibilities will span the full software development lifecycle - from brainstorming, design and analysis to development, implementation and maintenance. You'll define strategies for new data infrastructure products, create and maintain detailed instrumentation specifications for all new features across ASE products, and contribute code to implement these strategies.

Working with stakeholders across product, engineering, data science, privacy, legal, and QA teams, you will:

  • Design and implement privacy-preserving analytics systems some of Apple’s flagship software products
  • Design and develop frameworks and tools to collect analytics data across all Apple platforms (iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, visionOS, web, and third-party)
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for client instrumentation capabilities, creating specifications for engineering, data science, and QA teams
  • Serve as data collection subject-matter expert, advising stakeholders on analytics impact across systems
  • Partner with privacy and legal teams to balance analytics needs with consumer privacy protection

The people here at Apple don’t just create products — they create the kind of wonder that’s revolutionized entire industries. It’s the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do, from amazing technology to industry-leading environmental efforts. Join Apple, and help us leave the world better than we found it.

  • Strong prioritization skills with proven ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously with overlapping deadlines

  • Ability to assist in the creation and enforcement of privacy and compliance policies and guidelines across ASE and Apple
