The Director, Program Learning Governance plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness, transparency, and regulatory alignment of enterprise learning programs across American Express.
This leader will design and oversee the governance strategy for all regulatory and risk-related learning programs—driving consistency, accountability, and actionable insights that strengthen our control environment and reinforce our culture of compliance and integrity.
Working closely with partners across Control Management, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and other enterprise functions, this individual will lead the governance and reporting agenda for enterprise learning programs. The ideal candidate combines a strategic mindset with strong operational discipline, bringing both data-driven insight and a passion for continuous improvement to how we deliver, measure, and sustain learning programs globally.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Manage the Global Required Learnings Governance agenda by ensuring all processes are documented, appropriate controls are in place, and standards are consistently applied.
Oversee program compliance based on guidance from Risk, Compliance, Legal, and other control partners—supporting audit readiness and regulatory response when required.
Design and implement governance frameworks, metrics, and dashboards to monitor learning compliance, performance, and impact across the enterprise.
Partner with Control Management and other enterprise teams to maintain ongoing risk self-assessment (RCSA) practices and ensure due diligence across learning programs.
Lead audit and exam management, including preparation, remediation, and documentation activities tied to regulatory and internal control expectations.
Drive process improvements to enhance program oversight, operational efficiency, and data integrity.
Synthesize data and analytics into clear, actionable insights that inform decision-making, enhance transparency, and strengthen learning program accountability.

Operational excellence: Establish frameworks and controls that ensure learning programs meet regulatory and risk management requirements while remaining efficient, scalable, and auditable.
Strategic insight: Use analytics and reporting to identify trends, measure impact, and inform continuous improvement in learning and compliance outcomes.
Simplify and scale: Translate complex requirements into clear, practical solutions that can be applied consistently across global teams and diverse learning systems.
Foster collaboration: Model Blue Box Values by working transparently, encouraging open dialogue, and bringing others along in shaping a culture of shared responsibility for learning governance.
Drive innovation: Explore new approaches to risk mitigation, process improvement, and data reporting that enhance the colleague experience while maintaining compliance rigor.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years of experience in data analytics, reporting, or governance, with prior exposure to managing internal and external audits or exams.
Experience with learning management systems (LMS), dashboards, and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Proven ability to translate technical and regulatory information into clear, actionable messages.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Risk, Compliance, and Control Management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to identify and mitigate risk and deliver continuous process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within financial services, risk management, or compliance learning environments.
Familiarity with Control Management frameworks and the Risk Compliance Self-Assessment (RCSA) process.
Experience building or maintaining governance frameworks and enterprise reporting tools.
Advanced proficiency with data visualization and analytics platforms.
Background in regulatory or compliance learning programs and audit remediation processes.
Advanced degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Risk Management, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and champion process excellence across complex organizations.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
