Business Unit/Role Specific Information

Business Continuity Management (BCM) exists to oversee and implement resilience, continuity, and response capabilities that ensure American Express is prepared, and able, to respond effectively to disruptions. The BCM program is a key component of the Business Disruption Risk team within Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) at American Express.

 

The BCM Program encompasses Strategy and Program Design, Governance and Reporting, and Quality Assurance. The team partners across the enterprise to strengthen resilience, and to ensure consistent, scalable, continuity practices- ultimately shaping the evolution of BCM through actionable recommendations and thought leadership.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Business Continuity Management (BCM) Intern, you will gain hands-on experience to help strengthen the program to meet elevated regulatory requirements. You’ll work cross functionally across teams such as Operational Resilience, Technology Resilience, Third-Party Risk Management, and Control Management. You will support initiatives to build resilience and ensure compliance, while keeping our customers and colleagues safe.

Additionally, this intern will have the opportunity to tackle a high-impact project aligned such as but not limited to:

  • Support the design, coordination, and implementation of American Express’s enterprise BCM program, with a focus on policy development, regulatory compliance, third party risk management, training, exercising, and quality assurance.

  • Lead and support governance and reporting efforts, helping to identify and implement improvements that strengthen risk management and increase program efficiency.

  • Provide project management leadership for key program enhancement initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and cross-functional alignment.

  • Act as a strategic liaison with Business Continuity partners across the company to drive consistent execution of business objectives.

  • Guide business unit partners in fulfilling their first-line responsibilities within the BCM framework, driving engagement, accountability, and adherence to standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program

  • Bachelor’s degree candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Interest in enterprise risk, business continuity, cybersecurity, or regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any of the following: Risk Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration

  • Robust problem-solving skills; ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and basic data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau or Power BI).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with financial regulatory requirements around Business Continuity and Resilience (e.g., FFIEC)

This position will be based in New York, New York.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $24.05 to $63.00 hourly sign-on bonus
