Applications Group is seeking a Evening Sports Editor to work on sports content on Apple
News.
Description
The sports editor will use editorial judgment to source and select stories for sports coverage
across all the key areas of Apple News, with an emphasis on quality, accuracy, topic diversity,
and liveliness. You have the ability write sharp and engaging headlines with the Apple News
audience in mind and work with our copy editors to ensure your work meets all aspects of our
house style. The sports editor is an effective communicator who will maintain relationships with
editors at a variety of sports publications and help them achieve success on the platform. You
understand the critical metrics for your projects and, with News leadership, work toward
them strategically. Night and weekend work is required for this role.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong editorial judgment, excellent headline-writing skills, and ability to make decisions
when news breaks
Experience using a variety of CMSs and a keen understanding of the tools that support
state-of-the-art editorial
Proficient with data and analytics and can responsibly incorporate user behavior into your
editorial strategy
Enthusiasm and history working in sports news and an understanding of what drives fan
engagement
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated creative and innovative problem solving and a willingness to take the lead when needed
Empathy and understanding in how to advocate for the editorial experience with peer
teams like engineering, design, and business.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $119,200 and $179,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
