Description
APPLE INC has the following available in San Diego, California. Mechanical Engineering, design, development, and test of data collection prototype systems. Handle CAD development of mechanical designs for integrating new sensors into complex electromechanical systems. Participate in generating innovative ideas and design solutions to enable the development of new technology across the company portfolio. Communicate cross-functionally with firmware, software, electrical, program management, and consumer teams on mechanical and design requirements that will enable intended usability of platforms. Brainstorm, design, and implement infrastructure for characterization and validation of necessary system performance metrics. Work on fabrication of 3D prototypes, mockups, and design experiments to mitigate risk for future builds at contract manufacturing sites. Work with machine shops and contract manufacturers for fabrication and assembly support bring up. Perform failure analysis and problem solving on hardware systems when unexpected errors are encountered. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $129,600 - $195,200/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Education and/or experience must include each of the following:
Performing 3D CAD design and 2D drawing for mechanical part mockup and fabrication of component and system assemblies.
Interfacing with vendors to discuss necessary part level QC based on detailed drawings and order parts for prototype testing and main build production.
Cross-functional conceptual knowledge in order to interact with electrical, firmware, software, system level engineers, and program managers to understand how cross-functional design requirements and program schedules impact mechanical design.
Performing parts assembly and prototyping to de-risk larger, more costly future builds.
Conducting failure analysis through the use of microscopy, camera test charts, and CT scans to move programs forward when unexpected errors are encountered.
Using public speaking skills in order to present to director level leadership to gain approval to move programs forward at cost or at resource intensive milestones.
Using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) experience to ensure proper fit and production of part and system assemblies.
Working with consumer electronic devices, cameras, sensors, and technology relevant to company portfolio
Preparing technical documentation and drawings to communicate work instructions to partner with teams and assembly instructions to contract manufacturers.
Brainstorming novel design solutions, prioritize figures of merit (FOMs), and down select according to design matrices to quantify mechanical design choices to cross-functional partners and leadership.
