Apple is seeking a Materials Engineer to join Panel Process and Optics (PPO) Engineering team. Our Materials Engineer is responsible for developing new materials and supporting processes that enable innovative manufacturing technologies to tackle sophisticated design challenges that have a direct impact to future product, quality and delivery of Apple Displays and Touch technology. The individual in this role will serve as a focal point in the material development/selection/process development of sophisticated key process modules from the concept/architecture stage through product engineering validation builds. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self-motivated. A successful candidate needs to be a flexible thinker and be able to problem-solve outside of their respective technical area.
Description
Materials Engineer is responsible for New material development with vendors, leading a project from conception to high volume production, and material search and selection!
Responsibilities
Lead material suppliers to develop new display materials for specific programs within a given timeline.
Developing fundamental understanding of structure-property relationships.
Material search and selection - Select commercially available or existing materials that meet material success criteria.
Failure Analysis - Lead failure analysis investigations for material interactions in complex display stack-ups. Leverage expertise in analytical test methods to understand root cause and develop corrective actions.
Data analysis – Develop new material characterization methods, conduct tests, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
Design & Process FMEA - Lead FMEA for new materials & process technology.
Multi-functional interaction with Product Design, Display Engineering, Display Operations and international vendors.
Encouraged to keep tabs on relevant industrial material and process manufacturing technical trends.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. Degree minimum in Materials Science / Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Chemistry or related fields and 3 years of relevant industry experience.
Experience with polymer chemistry/formulations, adhesives and polymer physics to be able to interact seamlessly with material vendors.
Experience working from product requirements to property specifications to material formulation, process optimization and material selection based on sound understanding of structure - property - processing - performance relations.
Experience with leading a project from lab scale development to high volume production without major last minute surprises
Experience with failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and problem solving for product yield and quality issue.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or M.S. Degree in Materials Science / Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Chemistry with 5+ years of experience in related field preferred.
Prior research or project experience in materials informatics, chem-informatics, or computational materials science.
Ability for International business travel to support project implementation and collaborate with external vendors for product manufacturing.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
