Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives & PMO

New York, NY, United States(Hybrid)

Job Description

The Global Acquiring Partnerships and Programs Team (GAPP) within Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) is tasked with making American Express “Welcomed Everywhere and Used Every Day” – an important strategic focus for the company. The GAPP team leads relationships across several partnership models with innovative FinTech companies, traditional Merchant Acquirers or Banks, and specialized Payment Facilitators to achieve this mission.

The Strategic Initiatives & PMO group sits within the Emerging Payments & Strategic Initiatives team in GAPP and is responsible for driving thought leadership and supporting strategic decision-making related to Third-Party Partner (TPP) growth and related initiatives. The team operates as an internal consulting function, supporting high-priority efforts for senior leadership within GMNS.

Responsibilities

  • This role will entail a combination of Surcharge Response & Strategy support for third party-related workstreams and providing strategic support on key TPP growth and remediation initiatives.

  • Partner with stakeholders across network product, client and partner management, legal, marketing, and executive office to deliver on high-priority initiatives, ensuring successful execution and implementation.

  • Identify opportunities for incremental and/or new business growth via TPPs, looking both internally and externally for emerging ideas, topics, and trends.

  • Develop perspective and path forward for emerging ideas, topics, and trends within the third party space – building comprehensive business cases that balance opportunity and operational feasibility.

Qualifications

  • Strategic, big-picture problem solver with strong business acumen and high degree of creativity.

  • Resourceful self-starter who thrives in ambiguity. Demonstrated ability to create structured outputs from whitespace questions.

  • Proven relationship-builder with strong consultative and collaborative skills to partner with and influence stakeholders across the organization.

  • Strong project management skills with consistent record of driving results on complex, large-scale initiatives in a matrixed environment.

  • Excellent communication skills – both in building high-quality deliverables and presenting compelling narratives to senior leadership audiences.

  • Experience working with data and ability to drive to insight, clearly articulating the “so what” in a business context.

  • Several years of experience in strategy/management consulting, corporate strategy, or comparable roles.

  • Ability to work with a high degree of discretion on sensitive workstreams involving legal and related stakeholders.

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
