The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content development, colleague communications, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Crisis Communications leader to join our team. The individual will be responsible for developing and executing crisis communication strategies, playbooks, and messaging in support of the incident-management process for technology system outages, plus data security incidents. In addition, the individual will develop and execute an internal communications program to raise awareness of cybersecurity best practices, and lead communications planning and execution to support the global rollout of new or refreshed security tools and processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in internal communications, media relations, incident management, and crisis response, with a proven ability to manage high-pressure, quickly evolving situations and deliver effective communication solutions.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Collaborate closely with internal clients and partners to understand key stakeholders and potential technology-related crisis scenarios that may impact reputation.
Identify potential crisis scenarios and develop proactive crisis communication plans, protocols, and messaging to support enterprise incident management.
Provide strategic counsel to leaders and global media relations leads during crises, working as part of a cross-functional rapid-response team.
Serve as crisis-communications lead to draft statements, talking points, and Q&As; coordinate necessary approvals; and interface with media relations and internal communications leads across the globe to understand and address their communication needs.
Monitor traditional and social media channels, as well as technology industry monitoring sites for emerging issues and crisis indicators, providing timely updates to clients, as appropriate.
Coordinate with legal counsel and other internal partners to ensure consistent messaging and alignment of communication efforts.
Conduct post-incident evaluations and debriefs to assess communication effectiveness, identify lessons learned, and recommend future improvements to help strengthen the company’s crisis-preparedness programs.
Develop and deliver crisis-communication playbooks and coaching to prepare key stakeholders for effective crisis response and media engagement.
Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to crisis communications and reputation management.
Develop and execute communication strategies to support internal security awareness campaign, as well as new or refreshed security tools or policy changes.
Minimum Qualifications:
7-10 years of experience in crisis communications supporting incident management and response technology system outages, plus data security and cybersecurity incidents; as well as experience in communicating the internal roll out of security-led initiatives, programs, and tools
Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting goals and deliverables
Exceptional writing skills, including interpretation of technical information into language that is easily understandable by audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including the use of graphics for visual appealing PowerPoint presentations
Ability to provide after-hours and on-call support, when required
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Communications or related field preferred
Knowledge of related industry regulations, frameworks and standards preferred.

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
