The Marcom Packaging Research & Development team is at the creative and technical intersection of Apple’s product packaging. The R&D team leads development projects related to graphic print, printing method and embellishment technology, and cosmetic materials standards to deliver best-in-class consumer packaging with novel design details and tremendous scale.
Description
The Manager, Marcom Packaging Research & Development position supervises a team of Print Experts as a collaborative, people-first leader. The Manager establishes and aligns a technology roadmap by collaborating across the company and supply chain, and then drives the crisp execution of scalable print solutions with a rigorous process-oriented approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead a team of Print Experts and support staff responsible for packaging print technology development. Champion innovation that improves Apple’s creative excellence, quality, sustainability and amazing customer experience.
Collaborate with internal teams, equipment manufacturers, materials suppliers and printer/converter vendors to identify and develop projects, prioritize resources, and deliver best-in-class solutions to support Apple’s product packaging. Support and advocate for the business needs and your team throughout the execution of the projects, but be adaptable to adjust priority as needs evolve.
Leverage your team’s expertise to establish clear cosmetic, color, and performance objectives for the development and validation of new print methods, techniques and equipment. Partner with cross-functional teams to establish similar standards for the development of inks, coatings, substrates, and other materials.
Oversee troubleshooting of technical issues during print development projects across all product lines, stepping in when needed to remove roadblocks. Utilize clear communication and collaborative leadership to land holistic solution that benefit all lines of business.
Available for domestic and international travel (up to 15%).
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of experience in the field of consumer packaging, sustainable packaging materials, fine art graphic printing, and/or application equipment, with 3+ years of leadership and people management experience.
Experience developing a technical roadmap, prioritizing resources, and executing programs with multiple stakeholders, ideally in the printing or packaging industry.
Experience partnering with Creative and Design professionals to push the state of the art of printed graphics and embellishment in consumer packaging.
Preferred Qualifications
Superior written and verbal communication and presentation expertise with exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to explain complex issues to a variety of audiences, are able to think about the big picture when communicating, and can summarize technical details succinctly.
Detail-oriented problem solver who is a demonstrated leader, collaborator and team-builder. A steady and calm presence that builds consensus and drives decisions within their own team and across an organization, from the individual contributor to senior leadership level.
Deep understanding of UV sheetfed and UV flexographic printing processes on fiber-based materials with experience solving UV print issues with various substrates, inks, coatings, adhesives, and print decoration (ex. cold foil) and finishing.
Experience with global industry color management and print standards (i.e. ISO 12647, 15339 and GRACoL2013 color methods).
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $185,800 and $334,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
