About American Express Global Dining

American Express Global Dining brings together world-class experiences through platforms like Resy, Tock, and Rooam, creating seamless connections between diners, restaurants, and the broader Amex Membership ecosystem. Our mission is to define the future of hospitality and dining through technology, data, and design.

At Amex, our culture is built on innovation, shared values, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you’ll experience this powerful backing through our inclusive culture, leadership principles, and comprehensive support for your well-being and growth.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As VP, Dining Platform Engineering, you will lead the shared platform organization powering Resy, Tock, and Rooam. This includes core services, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, developer platforms, data foundations, and enterprise integrations.

You will define and execute the platform strategy that enables product velocity, global scale, reliability, and security across the Dining ecosystem. Reporting into CTO of Global Dining, you will serve as the accountable executive for platform stability, modernization, and architectural coherence across a multi-product portfolio.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will operate at the architecture level, serve as a technical authority in critical design and architecture reviews, guide modernization efforts, and elevate engineering standards across distributed systems operating at scale.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Engineering Leadership

  • Build and lead high-performing platform engineering, infrastructure, and SRE teams

  • Develop senior technical leaders and create a culture of operational excellence and accountability

  • Drive clarity in decision-making across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment

  • Lead and mentor Staff Engineers and senior technical individual contributors, to uphold architectural rigor and technical excellence across the platform

Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and evolve the unified platform architecture spanning shared services, APIs, identity, payments integrations, and partner ecosystems

  • Lead modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native, event-driven, service-oriented architectures

  • Partner with Data Engineering to align on data governance, shared schemas, and platform capabilities that enable secure, scalable, and trusted data access across the ecosystem.

Product Partnership

  • Partner with Product and Design to translate vision into scalable technical roadmaps

  • Enable rapid experimentation, A/B testing, and data-driven feature iteration

  • Balance speed and innovation with platform consistency, long-term maintainability and tech debt minimization

Infrastructure, DevOps & SRE

  • Own cloud infrastructure strategy (multi-cloud), including cost optimization, scalability, and resilience

  • Lead DevOps and CI/CD transformation to accelerate safe, repeatable software delivery

  • Build and scale world-class SRE practices, including SLAs/SLOs, incident management, observability, and disaster recovery

Reliability, Security & Compliance

  • Ensure platforms meet enterprise-grade security, regulatory, and compliance requirements

  • Partner closely with Amex enterprise architecture and information security teams to align with corporate standards while preserving speed

Developer Productivity

  • Invest in internal platform capabilities that improve developer experience, reduce cognitive load, and increase engineering throughput

  • Standardize tooling, telemetry, and performance measurement across services

Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in engineering, including 8 years in senior technology leadership roles

  • Proven experience scaling distributed systems serving high-volume consumer or transactional ecosystems

  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and platform engineering, with strong hands-on experience in multi-cloud, Kubernetes, microservices, event-driven systems, and modern data platforms

  • Proven track record leading platform modernization initiatives, including integrating diverse and legacy technology stacks into unified architectures, while embedding DevOps, observability, reliability, and security best practices at scale

  • Experience leading organizations operating across multiple programming languages and technology stacks (e.g., JVM-based services, Python, modern front-end frameworks), with the ability to guide architectural consistency across heterogeneous systems

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain senior engineering leaders while fostering a high-trust, collaborative environment that enables teams to operate at peak effectiveness

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence executives and technical teams alike

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred
