Job Description

The Associate Director, Business HR is a strategic and trusted partner to the organization, helping to shape our culture, support our business strategies and finding and developing the talent necessary to make a remarkable impact on AbbVie and patients around the world. This role is responsible for leveraging best-in-class HR practices to continually construct, deliver, and support programs that establish AbbVie as an employer of choice while empowering all employees at all levels of the organization. They will serve as a strategic partner to three of our Business Technology Solutions VPs, developing the HR strategies, needs assessments, and resulting HR solutions for their global organization.

The BTS (Business Technology Solutions), more broadly known as Information Technology, organization continues to evolve and focus heavily on the development of its most critical assets, it’s people. As such, the organization is expanding the Business HR team to enable the necessary resources and support to drive the global HR strategy and ensure the continued success of the business. We are seeking a passionate leader to help us define and implement the HR strategy through coaching, leadership development, succession planning, talent management and more.

This position will follow a hybrid schedule of 3 days/week onsite from our North Chicago headquarters.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the primary strategic partner to the business. Assist or lead the creation and implementation of HR Strategies to meet organizational and business needs.

  • Coach, consult, and influence the business leaders, including senior leadership, regarding leadership development, succession planning, and talent management. Engage and Influence business leaders though strong relationship-building skills and strategic insights.

  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, develop and retain talent that meets current and future business needs. This includes identifying and cultivating new capabilities required for future success. Lead talent development and succession planning efforts.

  • Ensure the effective delivery of all HR programs and service, and be responsible for HR results in the business, including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness, and associated financial results.

  • Establish, build, and maintain strong relationships with key HR partners from all Centers of Excellence and Service Centers to ensure HR elements are successfully coordinated to meet business needs; include relationship management, leadership, HR roles & responsibilities, and service delivery commitments.

  • Provides consultation on and leads organization design and effectiveness / structure issues to ensure optimal performance.

  • Drive people manager development to create clarity and consistency of expectations, accountability, and enriched manager/employee experiences. Partner with people leaders to shape a culture of high employee engagement, high performance, diversity and inclusion.

  • Facilitate, implement, and model change. Develop and deliver effective communication strategies that align with organizational priorities and support business objectives.

  • Champion AbbVie Ways We Work with the Business by modeling, educating, and coaching on these behaviors.

  • Prioritize critical projects based on business needs and available resources

  • Identify trends and new approaches to business processes that should be both incremental and ahead of the curve.

  • Develop proposals and recommendations to resolve strategically important issues with strategic approach to problem-solving on HR issues (enterprise mindset, connecting the dots, thinking ahead)

  • Leads large scale, strategic projects and initiative with multi-year impact, capable of creating transformational change in a matrix environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial and Labor Relations or in a highly related field of study required, master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years in HR with client area accountability; demonstrated expertise in achieving business results through people solutions, emphasis in employee relations.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a complex and demanding environment

  • Experience in organizational development, design, and effectiveness

  • Strategic thinking with proven experience in leading multiple programs and initiatives, with the ability to prioritize

  • Experience in conducting job evaluations, job and decision rights analysis and analyzing employee data to develop workforce strategy.

  • Experience with utilizing competency model and assessment tools such as 360 assessment tool and Thomas PPA talent tool to conduct manager talent assessment and deliver reports to detail potential motivators and areas of improvement to support talent development.

  • Experience with consulting methods such as A3 problem solving method, 5 why framework, MECE principle, etc., as well as effective business presentation skills utilizing effective visuals and charts in PowerPoint.

  • Experience in data analysis and survey results analysis to help generate insights around talent, culture, and engagement.
