Role Number: 200647417-3401

Summary

Apple is looking for a motivated module design engineer to contribute to the design, development, and qualification activities of next-generation display technology and products. We welcome candidates with backgrounds in optical engineering, opto-mechanical design, or related disciplines.

Description

In this role, you will support new display technology development and help implement critical technology platforms to improve display performance—from design conception to hardware and experience prototyping, and to final products. You will be involved in system modeling, mechanical integration, and optical-mechanical tolerance analysis to assist in design and validation. You will work with a diverse and multidisciplinary group of highly talented colleagues. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to understand optical design tolerance and sensitivities, optimize system-level performance based on critical metrics, and validate system designs through engineering builds and design of experiments.

A successful candidate is eager to learn, comfortable exploring new technology, a flexible problem solver, and meticulous in attention to detail. You should be motivated to grow your skills, willing to tackle problems outside of your comfort zone, and thrive in a hands-on environment that values engineering excellence and innovation. You will be part of something big; come join us!

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field

  • Coursework or project experience in optical design principles and/or mechanical design

  • Familiarity with data analysis and scripting (e.g., MATLAB, Python, JMP) through coursework, internships, or personal projects

  • Exposure (academic or internship) to lab equipment for optical or mechanical characterization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree, and/or professional experience in optics, opto-mechanics, displays, or related hardware field

  • Experience with optical simulation software (e.g., LightTools, Zemax, Speos)

  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, CREO)

  • Interest in light source technology (e.g., mini-LEDs, micro-LEDs)

  • Familiarity with color science and display metrology

  • Experience with tolerance analysis (e.g., RSS, Monte Carlo methods) for optical-mechanical systems

  • Experience building hardware prototypes (academic, personal, or professional)

  • Strong presentation and communication skills
