We're seeking a dedicated biomechanics FEA expert to join our team and contribute to the development of computational models and simulations for studying the customer experience of Apple wearable products. This role requires exceptional skills in biomechanical FEA, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication to effectively collaborate with a diverse group of partners.
Success in this position demands creativity, organization, and willingness to listen, learn, and comprehend the requirements of your models and simulations. You’ll collaborate closely with user study researchers to create, validate, and apply innovative biomechanical models to the design of wearable products. A solid grasp of modeling and simulation principles, coupled with extensive experience in biological tissue and product applications, is essential. The models and simulations must strike a balance between making assumptions to drive an efficient design process, with attention to detail to deliver insight with integrity.
Description
As a member of the Applied Research and Characterization team, you’ll develop innovative modeling and simulation methods to provide design insights for wearable products. You’ll construct and implement human and product models for critical wearable load cases. Collaborating closely with other researchers, you’ll gather quantitative and qualitative information about the user experience. Furthermore, you’ll engage deeply with the design team to facilitate the integration of these novel methods into product strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
2+ years relevant work experience
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics or similar engineering field
Experience conducting research
Expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) of biological systems
Attention to detail and commitment to verification/validation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent technical communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics or similar engineering field
Experience with a human subjects research field such as 3D medical imaging, soft tissue characterization, human factors testing, or sensory perception
Experience with Abaqus FEA
Experience in implicit and explicit FEA
Experience with the mechanical behavior of materials and constitutive modeling
Experience presenting to senior technical leadership
Self motivated to drive research planning and scoping
CAD
Curiosity about wearables & human research
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
