Apple’s Ecosystem Products & Technologies team is looking for a skilled and motivated Systems Engineer with a passion for creating great user experiences and high quality products. The ideal candidate would be a generalist with a great investigative attitude, strong sense of curiosity, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, structured, and verifiable specifications and documentation. In this role, you will be helping to define and drive the ecosystem of accessories compatible with Apple devices.
Description
Fundamental to the success of iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and Mac is the healthy ecosystem of great accessories and partnerships. From power adapters and charging cables to hearing aids, headphones, game controllers, digital cameras, and cars, thousands of companies participate in this accessory ecosystem. This ecosystem is unique for its tight integration between accessories and Apple devices that extends the Apple user experience. This level of integration requires close coordination between varying technologies, vendors, developers, and Apple teams.
In this dynamic position, you will:
- Work with multi-discipline teams to design and launch new accessories and features into the market.
- Write clear, concise, and testable specifications that serve as the foundation for design, development, and validation efforts.
- Lead projects through early design phases, proof of concept, and system architecture as well as support integration, verification & validation.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to steer solutions and resolve complex challenges.
- Identify and prioritize project tasks and risks.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
5 years of interdisciplinary engineering expertise related to consumer electronics or embedded systems (systems, firmware, hardware/electrical, and/or mechanical)
Solid understanding of hardware/software interaction and mechanical constraints
Strong technical writing and documentation skills, producing concise and clear engineering specifications
Ability to develop and maintain system-level requirements/specifications for hardware, software, and mechanical subsystems
Ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams and exert effective influence
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree
5 years of product development experience in a matrix organization
History of shipping interoperability and ecosystem features
Knowledge of communication methods and protocols (e.g. USB, Bluetooth/BLE, NFC, Wi-Fi, etc.)
Experience working with standards bodies or contributing to industry standards
Ability to think strategically, while driving tactical details
Systems thinking mindset, with attention to interface definitions and edge cases
Experience working with teams of diverse technical backgrounds and quickly learning from them
Ability to easily and quickly move between different focus areas
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
