DESCRIPTION

Lead the overall technical coordination of mechanical product development activities and be accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production. Integrate the requirements of interdisciplinary and cross-functional stakeholders of product development, including making key decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the Value Package Profile (VPP). Obtain input and negotiate with program leadership, product engineers and technology teams to deliver robust prototype and mechanical production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity. Work extensively in the business and engineering processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), New Product Development, Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS) using tools including Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Translation of Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX) into specific deliverables, and project risk 9-box to support high quality decision making. Establish and maintain the balances triangle of Scope, Schedule and Resources for projects as part of Project Management. Plan, schedule, coordinate and execute the activities involved in developing mechanical products to respectively aligned hierarchies of requirements and technical profiles. Monitor and communicate across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations, and ensure product capability meets or exceeds expectations. Take mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected and lead the full product life cycle process. Utilize Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis to impact product design decisions through interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product’s function relative to its system or sub-system. Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which mechanical designs are developed and establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation as part of System Requirements Engineering. Track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle, assess the impact of changes to system requirements of project scope, schedule, and resources, and create and maintain information linkages to related artifacts. Solve highly complex mechanical product problems using the 7-Step Product Problem Solving Process to determine the assignable cause, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify the systemic root causes to recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Coordinate the development of design verification and system validation plans to identify failure modes while managing risk and relative priority. Evaluate analytical and experimental test results following mechanical engineering principles to ensure products meet technical requirements and to validate that design solutions address user needs. Produce recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Positions require a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Project Engineer or related position.
