Job Description

The Global Compound Logistics and Operations (GCLO) organization is at the heart of AbbVie's mission to advance innovative therapies. GCLO is responsible for the critical management of inventory, dispersal, and logistics of both biological and chemical entities, supporting our Discovery and Development scientists in their pursuit of breakthrough drug solutions. By ensuring reliable access to research compounds and maintaining seamless operational workflows, GCLO underpins the success of our drug discovery and development efforts.

We are seeking a motivated individual to join the GCLO Pharmacy Lab in an Associate Data Scientist II capacity. This role offers a unique blend of hands-on laboratory operations and process improvement, contributing to both daily operations and strategic initiatives. As part of our team, you will help optimize lab workflows and drive technology-enabled improvements, making a lasting impact on research outcomes and operational excellence across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and execute lab operations for receipt, inventory management, and dispersal of R&D compounds, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards.

• Analyze operational workflows and implement solutions utilizing laboratory automation, IT systems, and data analysis tools to optimize lab processes.

• Act as a subject matter expert in lab business systems, providing training, maintaining documentation, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency and project execution, communicating best practices across lab and IT teams.

• Monitor performance metrics (KPIs), participate in strategic planning, and support resource allocation to achieve project milestones.

• Systematically troubleshoot lab and logistics issues, recommending technology-driven strategies to advance laboratory and business objectives.

• Support and mentor junior team members in operational and technical skill development.

• Sustain attention to detail and compliance in all tasks, particularly in high-volume or repetitive workflows.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline;

  • 2 years of experience in a laboratory, logistics, or scientific operations environment preferred

  • Hands-on experience in inventory management and laboratory processes (compounds, chemicals, or biologicals)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with proven attention to detail under high-volume or repetitive conditions

  • Ability to lead process improvements, adapt to evolving workflows, and train or mentor team members

  • Effective collaboration and communication skills for working in cross-functional, dynamic teams

  • Experience with laboratory automation, data entry, or inventory tracking software is a plus, but not required

  • Commitment to following established safety protocols and operational compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot operational challenges and implement practical solutions

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods during work shifts

•Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of heavier containers may be required

•Manual dexterity to handle laboratory materials and operate equipment

•May occasionally require moving carts, boxes, or laboratory supplies

•Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in lab settings
