Job Description

The Director I, Oncology Commercial Operations (OCO) resides in AbbVie Oncology’s Capability & Operations (C&O) function. The C&O Team is a pillar of the oncology BU, working cross-functionally to drive impactful outcomes to elevate the internal and external presence of AbbVie Oncology

The OCO team is responsible for leading strategy and maximizing effectiveness across all of U.S. Oncology as it relates to the following focus areas: Congresses, Sponsorships, Process Excellence (HCP Consulting, GPO execution etc) in partnership with the field, portfolio level strategic planning and internal communications, BU-wide culture and identity programs, NEW Project Management COE and AbbVie Oncology internal meeting planning. This group works collaboratively and effectively across the portfolio as well as Commercial Oncology brand, compliance, Legal, Medical Affairs and field teams to establish and drive strategic alignment across multiple initiatives.

The Director II, OCO is responsible for leading the team and is accountable for the overall success of the organization. The Director is responsible for promoting the team internally as a center of excellence for Oncology strategic planning and communications. This leader of leaders position provides the opportunity to shape strategic projects, the evolving Congress and Meetings model due to expansion and growth, and serve as a center strategic planning, communications and operations pillar across a fast-paced growing AbbVie Oncology business. AbbVie Oncology’s BU currently includes 4 on-market brands across solid tumor and hematology as well as several planning oncology launches in the US and beyond.

The Director will build a maximally effective team and support team growth and development. As a champion for innovation, the Director will guide the strategic direction of innovation in capabilities and approach to content and process, tools, and technology across AbbVie Oncology.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Own the strategy and execution of One Oncology Congress Strategy, inclusive of Marketing Sponsored Meetings and State Societies, as well as driving the evolution of the BU cross functional approach to creating the Congress strategic narrative

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders across AbbVie to provide visibility of OCO strategy and initiatives to maximize utility and effectiveness of team

  • Lead and align all AbbVie Oncology Franchises and PCS on areas where appropriate to create synergies for planning and processes; for example - Process Excellence, Congresses, Sponsorships, in field team effectiveness, and portfolio level planning (for example global strategic alignment review), communications and internal meeting planning

  • Partner with Corporate Affairs and Franchise leadership to drive internal BU communications

  • Provide leadership oversight and vision on new BU-wide Project Management COE

  • Drive portfolio level strategy, including IRA implications and other portfolio wide needs and special projects

  • Lead Oncology Compliance discussions and collaboration to drive effectiveness of cross-oncology initiatives that require support of OEC, Legal and Operations

  • Promote synergy and coordination across OCO team

  • Lead the annual budgeting process to ensure appropriate funding to deliver on BU objectives and oversee the OCO budget

  • Review monthly OCO metrics, produce monthly highlights and develop and implement strategies and tactics with BU leadership to elevate metrics

  • Champion a culture of compliance and hold ultimate responsibility for team adherence to relevant policies and procedures

  • Champion a culture of innovation, providing overall direction to drive process and capability innovation

  • Lead the coaching and training of team members to support career development across the OCO team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred

  • 10+ years relevant experience across sales, marketing and commercial operations

  • Extensive successful team leadership experience

  • Strong organizational, management, and team leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to establish a strategic direction/vision for an organization and proven ability to implement while taking calculated risks

  • Excellent business acumen and ability to navigate across a matrix

  • Excellent diplomacy and facilitation skills; ability to influence without authority

  • Strong leadership with diverse experience set that helps to build relationships across a wide range of functions

  • Strong strategic story telling skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in order to develop and present Senior Leadership “executive-ready” communications on a frequent basis; proven past experiences in writing strategic documents

  • Knowledge of AbbVie policies, procedures, culture, and other brand team operations

  • 7+ years Knowledge and experience in healthcare or life sciences preferred.

  • Continuous Improvement and/or Change Management skills; advanced training preferred

Salary: $156,000 - $296,500
