American Express Ventures (“Amex Ventures”) is the corporate venture capital arm of American Express focused on early-stage (primarily Seed – Series B) investments across fintech, commerce, consumer services and enterprise software. With a global mandate, Amex Ventures invests in game-changing startups with strategic relevance to American Express. The team also works with portfolio companies and startups to commercialize partnerships with American Express business units.

The Amex Ventures Business Development (BD) team amplifies and accelerates Amex Ventures’ mission by engaging in core BD activities across the investment funnel to differentiate in the startup ecosystem. The BD team is seeking a highly motivated individual to develop, manage, and drive execution of key business development (BD) processes & programs.
The role is based in New York, NY or San Francisco, California.
Job Scope & Responsibilities
In this exciting opportunity, the Business Development and Operations Senior Analyst will be an integral part of Amex Ventures, playing a key role in the day-to-day core business development activities including startup partnership program management, process management, reporting, VC engagement, and marketing & event support. The Business Development and Operations Senior Analyst will support our investor teams on startup & business unit engagement and reporting.
Primary responsibilities
Support ongoing management of our formal startup partnership program, working closely with investors to solidify and track commercialization
Serve as startup partnership expert across our team, including defining, tracking, analyzing results across our portfolio
Own all end to end reporting and tracking against all BD workstreams, including but not limited to startup engagement, VC network, event performance
Lead evaluation and potential adoption of AI tools & processes to drive efficiencies & learning within Ventures team
Provide executional support across BD programs (events, marketing)
Manage BD team playbook documenting processes around key team initiatives
Assisting in development of content for senior leadership and external facing meetings
Build out startup/ VC ecosystem network to support team objectives
Support development of strategically relevant investment areas via startup sourcing from VCs, participating in startup & American Express business meetings, partnership idea generation
Qualifications
The role is a multi-faceted one and requires both analytical, strategic, and interpersonal skill sets
Displays program management excellence with experience & interest in working with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment, accountability, and tracking
Strong quantitative skills with ability to interpret, manipulate, and derive insights from data
Strong proficiency in leveraging AI tools to enhance day to day work and interest in engaging with new AI technologies
Natural problem solver who enjoys building systems and processes
Excellent research skills with experience conducting in-depth market, industry, and competitor analysis.
Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships across various levels of an organization and externally. Existing relationships in the tech/ startup ecosystem preferred but not required.
Track record of working independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
At least 1 years previous experience in a role with quantitative analysis, research, technological understanding and/or business development
Strategic skills, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations and to provide thought leadership
Interest in the venture capital and startup ecosystem
A deep passion and appetite to contribute to a company with a rich legacy of innovation
Ability to understand and synthesize technical information related to the startup ecosystem, such as cloud computing, GenAI, DevOps, and infrastructure is a plus
Experience using CRM & portfolio support tools including, Affinity, Cobalt a plus
Bachelor’s degree required
Qualifications
Salary Range: $78,000.00 to $124,750.00 annually bonus benefits
